Really though also of all the countries in the world to side with against your own... Russia? It's a mafia state run by a murderous dictator currently undertaking a genocidal campaign of conquest against their neighbor. That's who you want to side with?

Putin has got a lot of mileage out of that pee tape

It’s not so much that they think US policy should be more isolationist, that’s fine.

It’s that in a case like this we have conservatives siding with the Russian government over their own even when the available evidence strongly indicates Russia is lying and is the aggressor. They WANT the US to be lying here because they hate their domestic ‘enemies’ that much.

Ah, right. Worse than isolation. Rather, they actively parrot Russian propaganda.

Well, Russia has worked rather hard to ensure their narratives are palatable and attractive to an American audience. And as our society is fractured, we've gone back to a more primitive faith based ideology. Where they trust no one except the people they ID with. This makes con-men like Trump elevated and in favorable positions to sway the masses of morons. Doubly so if such cons are perpetrated by an organized government level disinformation campaign.

Russia has an "in" because there is a concerted effort in America to be anti institution. Anti American government. To rebel against reason and to revel in madness. Our enemies see this, and provide fuel to the fire. Republicans will not view Russia as an enemy, because Republicans are poised for actual bloodshed against their fellow Americans. Enemy of my Enemy sort of thing. Siding with Russia is useful for the goal of insurrection. Whatever it takes to weaken us and prepare us for a takeover by Republican fascism. Jan 6th was just the beginning.

To me what is more remarkable is now conservatives actively root against the US, which is exactly what they used to claim liberals did.

I was against the Iraq War from before it even started but what I was always rooting for was us to not/stop our invasion, not that the US Army would lose.

WSJ calling out DeSantis for his BS on Ukraine. It has basically become if the Democrats are for something we have to be against it.

Ron DeSantis’s First Big Mistake The Florida Governor toys with Trumpian retreat on Ukraine.

Reagan is declassé to some on the right, but China and Russia and Iran are combining forces to threaten the U.S. in a way not seen since the 1980s. Still relevant is Reagan’s 1983 warning, in his “evil empire” speech: “Beware the temptation of pride,” the impulse to “blithely” declare “yourselves above it all,” to “ignore the facts of history” and label the contest “a giant misunderstanding” and “thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong.”

The Gipper’s “peace through strength” remains the benchmark for Republican success in world affairs. Let’s hope there’s still a lane for that kind of candidate in the GOP primary field, or the country and world are in more trouble than we have imagined.

Turkey's Defense Minister just said US ships can enter Black Sea to recover wreckage of the drone the Russians made crash. I wonder who is making the trip.

Haha, suck it Putler. Now you have the Navy where you don't want them, gathering intel nonstop. Little of value in the crash for Russia though.

I’m as shocked as anyone that Russia was lying. Again.

@Young Grasshopper - care to revise your interpretation of events? Or wait, let me guess, the video was faked or something.

Won’t revise anything bud. My comment about the drone operator shitting his pants was a light hearted joke.

You know what is also a joke? The White House’s response to this act of their drone being downed, which was essentially ‘be more careful next time Russia!’

While Biden will allow their spy balloons to trek all over our country, clearly Russia won’t. Hopefully Biden learned his lesson not to fly this toys near Russia’s borders. It’s unfortunate that we as taxpayers have to pay for his stupidity.

About the US drone, the Russian jets will figure out a way to dump some kind of liquid or substance to down a US drone without having to hit it with their fighter jet. Man the US drone is a study little sucker to keep on flying after the Russian jet dumped fuel on it. No wonder the Russian had to knock out the propeller.

But if all or almost all the US drones will be escorted by US fighter jets well then Russians can buzz near the US jets perhaps? Get some military flight experts in here to explain the possibilities. None of that is lunatic nut job talk.

What did anyone expect with this war? Of course if the next drone incident is a lot more serious then the conflict could escalate. I can't wait for that to happen and cause a world wide war as I've been posting for years here I hope will happen. Now that could be interpreted by some to be lunatic nut job talk.

Arming our drones with AMRAAMS and some variation of Sidewinders would be the next logical step in an escalation of confrontations with the Russkies. Or the next time a Russian fighter decides to play tag with our drones I think it would be a nice trade-off to have the drone detonate itself into thousands of pieces of shrapnel when the bad guy tries to fuck around with the drone's prop.

For sometime I've been hoping to see some 21st century Flying Tigers for Ukraine. Glad to see I'm not the only one. I hope these guys are talking to the Ukrainians. Even if those F-16s are sans AESA and current targetting pods they can still whoop a lot of orc ass. Maybe an older targetting pod so they can use Mavericks? Pretty sure those require continuous paint, no fire and forget there.

lol - 100% predictable. No, you quoted the Russian ministry of defense and then said the drone pilot was likely responsible for it crashing. Do you wish to revise that statement? Also, what is your view as to why Russia gave an inaccurate description of events?

They did.

The guy piloting the drone likely panicked when he saw the Russian jets, shit his pants and lost control of the UAV.

Amusing that you're now asking for the US to retaliate while before claiming all you wanted was peace. Gotta stay consistent with your lies, bud!

The entire balloon episode was a bit ridiculous because the military was able to gather a lot of intelligence on the balloon by following it and seeing how it behaved. I am sure anything really sensitive was covered as the balloon flew past, since they were following it closely. Then the US military waited until it was just off-shore and shot the thing down and recovered the bits. Shouldn't have become a partisan thing.

As far as the drone downing, this is standard cold war stuff. During the cold war, you has Soviet and US submarines colliding. It wasn't like a Chinese fighter rammed a EP-3 and almost killed everyone onboard. The best thing for the US to do is to keep flying the unmanned drones in international airspace and see what the Orcs do. This is just the cost of doing business.

It's also almost certain that the collision was due to incompetence on the Russian pilot's part. If this is the quality that Russia is sending up they better hope the US doesn't decide to shoot back as they are going to get annihilated.

Russians love to talk a big game about taking on NATO but their entire Air Force would be dead in 48 hours if it happened.

Their entire Air Force is being kept at bay by under equipped Ukrainians in trenches. Imagine if UK got their hands on actual first line AA and fighter jets.
I think this is one of the largest surprises of the war so far - the Russian air arm is almost totally ineffective. As soon as they were confronted with an enemy that could shoot back they crumbled.

Their entire military complex is a paper tiger. The only thing they've been able to successfully deploy is a million shitty mortars, a few hundred tanks that all die the same way, and a handful of cruise missiles manufactured over the last century, and a few hundred thousand morons with rifles. The US probably has better stocks with its private citizens at this point.

Didn’t NATO get chased out of Afghanistan by the Taliban? A force without a single jet or tank? Try winning a war against them first before taking on the Russians.

Besides, it wouldn’t be a war against Russia alone. China would get involved as well.

Making Afghanistan into a stable democratic state and making the VKS extinct are two very different propositions.

Also lol at China helping.

One could argue that it could be considered treason. Maybe not by the legal definition, but the spirit of it.

Fortunately treason has formal definitions which are legal and non-legal.

1 the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2 a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3 the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
