Besides, it wouldn’t be a war against Russia alone. China would get involved as well.

To add to what Brovane said, I doubt China would get involved if the US and Russia came to blows. China knows Russia's military is crumbling even against a Ukraninan military that only has indirect support from the US and its allies. China would quickly find itself fighting the US without help, as Russia would be wiped out in short order; and even with sheer numbers in its favor, China's military might not stack up well against the combined forces of the US and all its supporters. That and China would immediately torch economic ties it sorely needs.

They sure did. But the big difference is the Soviet Union was one country. NATO is 30+ countries. Big difference.

Thanks for the laugh. Nato crushed Afghanistan quickly. It is the nation building for a people that don’t want nation building that is the issue. Russia would be crushed in a conventional war by NATO. They are losing to Ukraine 😂. It is the nation building that would be problematic. You are amusing, please continue.

The Soviet Union was literally a collection of sovereign countries as per their own constitution. That's why Ukraine SSR and Belorussia were separate members of the UN.

lol. You are so, so stupid.

Or wait, were the Russians lying about that too?

Yes, I'm not confident NATO could occupy Russia and nation build there (why would we even want to) but their army would not be a problem. It's a joke.

Best case scenario is occupy them, get rid of all their nukes, then just leave. Russia is clearly no threat to anyone without nukes.
I'm going to say the history of countries trying to occupy Russia is not great. I'd rather skip that.

It is unfortunate that they have nukes though, yes. Otherwise the world would just ignore them as they have so little to offer.

Oh yeah, we were out there ‘nation building’ for 20 years, while simultaneously bombing the fuck out of the entire country and turning into ruble. Guess that’s your definition of ‘nation building’ huh? I think bombing a country for 20 years is the opposite of nation building. But if you want to try and spin losing a war against a nation without a single plane or tank that way to help you sleep better at night, more power to you.

Thanks for the laugh.

Nobody wants to occupy Russia for any reason. You couldn't even give Kaliningrad away because it's a dump and more problematically filled with Russians that Poland/the Baltics don't want. Same for Russia writ large.

So what makes you think Russia invading Ukraine is going to turn out any different for Russia than when they invaded Afghanistan?

I think it will turn out different for Russia. But not in a good way.

The Soviets lost about 14-15k troops during Afghanistan. That is why it is known as the graveyard of Empires.

The actual invasion of a country is the easy part. Occupying a country with a hostile population, that is the hard part.
Right now the Russian army is having a hard time just executing on the easy part of a invasion and occupation.

‘A hard time’ to put it mildly. They are currently fortifying Crimea, indicating they think there’s a distinct possibility Ukraine will be in a position to assault it.

Cut the bridges and strangle it. Then no amount of preparation will matter. Russia will lose Crimea the moment Ukraine reaches and holds the Azov coast. It might take time, but the outcome would be guaranteed.
