What I fear is with Russia willing to move to a war economy but missing tech imports, they are just going to field tons of dumb munitions and basically level everything. It's going to cost Ukraine more lives to go on the offensive and retake land.

There have been videos by Ukrainian units refusing to fight. Some of them are western territorial reserves which were sent into the Severodonetsk salient to plug gaps so they are obviously not going to be pleased since they expected to be operating in their region where they signed up. The videos show Ukrainian soldiers complaining of inadequate weapons/training/numbers/support.

The Austrian channel video linked above or another one from the same channel says that the T-62s were more suited for the Donbass role probably as assault guns while newer T-80s are also being shipped in. New Ukrainian artillery pieces donated by western countries or by Poland are being effectively targeted with counter battery fire. Also Russia has managed to beef up its numbers in east with additional BTGs. All these points to Russia having the initiative in the short term.
