However you want to frame it, you cannot deny citizens in western and western-aligned nations have vastly more freedom than citizens under Russian governance.

Your "location" says "Bay Area", and I can only assume you're located near San Fransisco. So the question is, are you a hypocrite? Or just plain stupid? If it's the latter, it's okay, I understand, and should not make fun of you for it.

If you don't agree with me, you are more than welcome to live your life in Russia if you so choose. Upon return you can show everyone this forum conversation where you stood strong in defense of Mother Russia! You might be the hero of the village!

This is the difference between the U.S. and Russia - here I can say, the U.S. sucks but at least we don't blow like Mother Russia blows, and I don't get swept up by police. If you do not value that, well, I can only do so much to help you out pal.

Most of the 'Russia STRONK!!1' keyboard warriors don't even live in Russia. They love the Motherland™ so much that they don't even want to live there.

Seems to be the case with a lot of people who show love for totalitarian regimes like the former USSR, Cuba, VZ, Russia, China, or NK.

They dont get to experience these utopian regimes on a daily basis. They get to blather on about how wonderful they are from the safety of the United States.

Seriously?

Come on, the US is great and all but it's not safe by any stretch of the imagination. Even on this forum there's a lot of gun fanatics whose favorite phrase is "good shoot".

I suppose if you're a criminal then you would feel unsafe. Are you a criminal?

Yes the United States is safe. You realize a msgboard is an anon forum for people to act like they wouldn't in public right? How many of these internet tough guys would actually shoot somebody? I doubt many. And if you added them all up here it represents in inconsequential % of our population.

But you are missing the point. The safety I am discussing is one that is afforded these people by living in the a country like the United States. They have freedom of speech, expression, religion ect. Then go on about how great places that don't have these are. It is easy to claim Cuba is a utopian dream when you aren't being repressed by it on a daily basis.

Vastly more freedom? Swept up by police? You really have no idea of what you're talking about. Stupid? LOL. There is your intelligence level. I've been in Russia and it is more free than its not. If all you know about Russia is from CNN/Fox, then you pretty much know nothing. And don't listen to me, check it out for yourself... if you dare.

BTW, if you're a significant person (financially/politically) and you say that US "sucks" or something similar, you can bet that you're on some NSA/government list.

You can chuck out all the hyperbole you want but you're much, much more free to say what you want in the states than you are in Moscow.

^Adapted to fit the reality of free speech in Russia today.

And no, I didn't get that off Fox News or CNN etc. Saw Russian experts (Americans) on ALJAM who live and work in Russia (mostly Moscow) speak about current trends toward authoritarianism happening there.

I'm on that list for my AT forum name alone.

Did you read your own link? It's British territory and it was the Brits that kicked them out and it's been the Brits that have ignored their own High Court regarding letting them back.

It is british territory leased to the US. The chaggosians have been clamoring for return to their island since 1973, [the time the US moved in and started building a base]

The US should invite all the chagossians on a ship and bring them back and give them back their land. That should show the British lackeys what freedom and land of the free means ..

I think Pussy Riot wrote a song about how incredibly free Russia is.

That's what happens in a dictatorship.

Yep, it goes both ways, Russian government dreams of the possibilities of NSA and the like. Choosing "good guys" or "bad guys" is koolaid for the general population.

That what happens to tasteless provocateurs. There are multiple free and non-government press in Russia that trashes government daily without getting naked or shooting porn. Meanwhile in "free" America, every citizen is constantly monitored without probable cause.

Lol.

Leave it to the Russia apologists in this thread to talk about how monstrous the NSA spying is while excusing actual dictatorial moves by Putin like jailing people who say things he doesn't like.

Putin is a scumbag.

LOL. Its hard for a brainwashed neocon to realize that there are millions of people in Russia who say "things" that Russian government doesn't "like", yet they're not in jail. Blasphemy in one of the holiest places of the country will and should get your ass kicked.

I guess it's easy to talk about that from the comfort of your 'evil' Western home while enjoying the freedom and liberty given by the 'evil' Western society, isn't it?

Maybe you should go live in the Motherland™ for a year or so. Then we'll talk, k?

Who are you to tell me where to live? I been in both places, unlike most of the folks here. I'm not choosing sides and saying A is better than B, its not about that. This is about double standards and mainstream media's propaganda.
