OK, let's all settle down for a moment. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that this single-sourced report from a British investigator, which cannot be verified by our Intelligence agencies, is 100% false. Let's also assume that this report was leaked either by a) US Intelligence officials familiar with this report with an axe to grind against Trump, or b) Democrats who were briefed on this report's existence who wanted it leaked prior to Tillerson's confirmation hearings. I'm basing my assumption off Occam's Razor, and that if this were true it would've leaked months ago (can't keep all those prostitutes quiet, or hotel cleanup staff, can you?)
Now that we've got those assumptions out of the way, how should Trump have responded? He did a horrible job with the response, IMO, and that speaks to the quality of the communications people around him and his own self-control. The only response needed should have read:
"I'm extremely disappointed with the media outlet's decision to make these ridiculous reports public before they can be properly vetted, serving their own agenda. I have no doubt that the truth this report is 100% false will become apparent. I have been briefed on this information and I appreciate our Intelligence officials who are thoroughly investigating these claims. My own campaign has been cooperating with the investigation to determine where these reports are coming from." Something to that effect. Am I the only one here who sees a bigger problem with the response than with the "Watersportsgate" report itself???
