I wonder how much of an impact going to the 256-bit memory bus will have? And hopefully it will get some dedicated AA hardware considering the 2900XT tanks at high res and AA. If performance is near a 2900XT and price is about $250 it should do fairly well.

I somewhat expect the top model to out do the 2900xt overall. That is just from the tenor of the rumours - so I likely will be disappointed.

Wow, I read this and I know its a rumor, but if it is true I will be hitting the refresh button all of next month to buy this thing the second it is available. I went from 32mb onboard (4 years) to a 6600gt (3 years) and now its time to move on

Theo continues to say good stuff. Should be a very interesting chip. Wonder if they are going to come out with a 512bit version or if they will add more shaders before doing that?

I think AMD has realized that 512 bit is a wash for now.

yea, likely not a big gain until dx10 really arrives.

So this card coming is DX 10.1. For those of us that have DX 10 cards, would we really be missing out on not having DX10.1?

I was looking forward to G92... but RV670 is sounding extremely nice. I'm already sold on RV670 if all of this true, unless G92 proves to be better.

Considering the placements within the naming scheme(8800 GT vs 2950 PRO) I'd have to say that the 2950 pro will probably outperform the 8800 GT.

so they're calling it 8800 gt instead of 8700 gts? maybe they could ship some as "8800 gt" for $400 retail, then underclock a little bit and reduce msrp down, oh, I dunno, $249 and call it "8700 gts". that would be original.

104-132W, performance of a 2900XT, single slot cooling, UVD, and $229-$250? Sign me up.

The point is that you wouldn't make a card called an 8800GT that's faster than the 8800GTS, and you wouldn't make a card called the 2950 PRO that's slower than the 2900 PRO. Seeing how the 2900 XT is mostly on par with the 8800GTS, and the 2900 pro is only slightly slower, I'd have to think that the 2950 pro will beat the 8800GT

I think that the single slot cooling option is huge thing for that card, especially with all the heat that 2900xt throws out. Hopefully they'll steal a page from nvidia and get a decent hsf for it that isn't quite so loud... because my 4 120mm case fans on med with the tuniq at 2000rpm is SOOOOO quiet, right?

I can't believe they busted out DX 10.1 when there aren't that many DX 10 games out yet. For those of us that got DX 10 cards, that just sucks ass for us. So angry!

I think by the time we have several good games - really - using dx10 of any flavour, we will all have new cards. But who knows, maybe crysis will surprise me.

why? ... it's gonna be a couple of years before it is really used - Devs are starting to play with it now - sure it'll be patched into some game ... but by the time it is needed, your current card will be slow ... really slow
[well, maybe like x800 series and SM3.0 .... do they care anymore?]

Did you not want them to go past DX8 or .. DX9b?

DX10 is of little importance to me, I'm not switching to Vista anytime soon, even though I do want to upgrade my DX9 performance for the games I already play. So, I am also waiting to see how the rv670 does, hopefully it doesn't get delayed.

Yes the problem is they are changing the specification of the 8800 GTS to 112 Shaders, it seems.

So the "8800 GT" has a very good chance of being quite competitive overall, it will depend on Nvidia's final clock rates.

The HD 2900 Pro is clocked at what 600MHZ with the same config as HD 2900 XT, the HD 2950 Pro will derive it's performance through additional clockspeed over 2900 Pro, with SKU at 750-825MHZ it will beat HD 2900 Pro, but the 8800 GT is unknown. But I think it's going to be pretty close.

By the way, would my Nexus NX-3500 power source give enough juice for the Pro, if its TDP is ''only'' 104w? My PSU only has 16A on the 12V rail though...

If the general consensus turns out to be true that these will outperform (slightly) the 2900XT, this could be a killer card in a Crossfire setup.

I am really not a fan of SLI type of systems, but with an X38 and under $200 price it just may make some sense. Especially since it sounds like the enthusiast cards early 2008 are 2 chip setups.
