RX 470 vs RX 480?

I'm thinking on buying a new video card and I was considering the XFX RX 480 GTR.

After checking some reviews I found that the RX 470 is really close to the RX 480 and I started to think if the price difference is worth the performance. Clockwise there seems to not be a lot of difference but there is a 12.5% difference in the CUs.

Is this difference going to be something significant on the future or no? I'm planning on getting the 8 GB version on whatever card.

XFX RX 480 GTX is around $250 at newegg.
MSI Radeon RX 470 or SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 470 are about $240 at newegg.

Thanks,

My 2 cents but I got a Sapphire RX 480 NITRO and it was DOA and felt cheap... the MSI ones are much better quality.

Saphire has a 480 4g model with a $20 rebate which brings it down to around $210 on Newegg yesterday. I almost pulled the trigger on it but I don't really need it so I decided not too.

Newegg has the MSI RX480 4GB on sale right now for $200 - $20 MIR = $180 w/free shipping. That's a price that's really hard to resist. I'd be all over it myself if I hadn't managed to get a great price on a PowerColor RX480 8GB model.

Where I live the sapphire 470 with 8GB 8 "GHz" memory is roughly the same price as 4GB 480's (which have slower memory). I'd probably go for the 470 in that case.

I see $199.99 for the following card, but no rebate:

(It does have a $20 off BF1 coupon though-->http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800995264 )

I am shopping for the best deal on a RX 480 8GB ...BUT... with 6 PIN Connection. My PS has only 6 PIN Connector. Seems I can't find any Brands offering 6 PIN except for XFX???? Any Others???

I went for Sapphire's 8GB/8GHz RX 470. It's as fast or faster than the reference 480s and OCs well enough to put it on par with the aftermarket 480s. Currently running at 8.6GHz/1350MHz with no voltage boost and temps never get higher than 70 with a slightly adjusted fan profile.

I haven't used an RX 470 first hand, but I can tell you my experience with the RX 480 has been very positive. I am able to OC my GIGABYTE G1 Gaming RX 480 8GB to over 1300 / 2010 at -48mV in MSI Afterburner, where maxing out Witcher 3 (including Hairworks) at 1080P is no sweat. Stock for stock, my PCS 390 got 12,100 a FireStrike graphics score (over all about 9,800) where as my RX 480 gets about 13,300 (over all 10,600).

Then my R9 390 which couldn't be OCed beyond 1100 on the core because it ran so hot / noisy (and needed +100 mV to get there), only managed about 13,100 on graphics score.

I'm also confident future driver updates will allow the RX 480 to spread its legs and separate itself a bit more from the RX 470.

Depends on how long you will keep the card. 1-2 yrs get RX480 or RX470 4GB, 3-4 years or more get RX470 or RX480 8GB. Simply really. Not sure where the confusion is.

I got the 4gb 470 for my son. Great card for 1080p/60hz gaming. 480 is probably more future proof but for casual gamers that like a bit of power the 470 is a good option.

Been running a Sapphire reference RX 480 8g that I snagged from Newegg for $239.00. Very satisfied.

Actually no rx480 is not anymore futureproof than rx470. Just like gtx680 wasn't more futureproof than gtx670,or like 980 is not more futureproof than 970 and like 1080 is not more futureproof than 1070.
That's why its always best to buy the second from top graphics card for most value for money. The absolute top end is only for bragging.

RX 480 is second from the top, or third, possibly a fourth, if you count 1080/1070/Fury. With current rebates and masterpass newegg promotion I'd rather spend a little extra for 8GB 480, the price difference is rather negligible.
