I would like to know your opinion about an upgrade I'm considering. I currently have a Rx 480 4 GB and I'm considering to get a Vega 56 8 GB. I really don't want to spend 400 € for a midrange card. I have a 1080p monitor and I like to play open world games like GTA 5.

Is it Vega 56 worth the upgrade?

Nah. I have a 480, and a 2060. The difference in FPS isn’t as significant as you might think. As a disclaimer I just lower shadows or a few other things and get better results on both. Either wait another year and get something worth the upgrade, or spend more and get a 1080.

I would get the new NAVI card (RX 5700).
There is a ASROCK RX 5700 cardavailable at new egg for $359.

I agree, get a custom cooler Navi card, would be the best upgrade. You may have to be patient though and wait a bit, the custom cooled cards are just trickling out now and often out of stock at the moment.

I'm in the same boat and I was considering Vega 56 as well, but I decided against it. Yes, Vega 56 is 40-50% faster than RX480, but at the cost of big power envelope and heat. Ultimately I didn't feel like 40-50% was a worthwhile tradeoff. Navi is about twice as fast as RX480, but it is also expensive. For the time being I'm going to stick with my RX480 for as long as I can, hopefully next year there will be more competition from 7nm nVidia and maybe even Intel to bring prices down to reasonable levels again.

Yes, I'm from Europe, Slovenia exactly and purchasing from US or outside EU in general (Newegg, ...) it is not attractive, because I would have to pay VAT (22%). I usually purchase computer hardware form Amazon.de. I actually found XFX AMD Radeon RX 5700 8GB card for 349 €, but was in doubt when I compared it to Gigabyte RX Vega 56 Gaming OC 8G for 288,75 €. I'm currently planning in getting a new computer and my budget is a bit tight, so every € counts. Currently I plan to order:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600 with Wraith prism cooler
MB: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite (I know this isn't the cheapest motherboard but it comes with Intel network and ALC1200 sound
RAM: 32 GB HyperX HX432C16PB3/16 (2*16 DDR4 3200)
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO m.2 nvme 1TB
CASE: Phanteks P400S or P400A
PSU: Be quiet! Pure power 11 700w

Thanks to all for your advices.

I am also considering a similar upgrade, only I'm coming from an RX470. The fact I use Linux means that the new Navi cards are not a good idea for me this year, so Vega will have to do.

I upgraded from a 1050ti to a Vega 56 a few months ago. It was a large performance increase considering it only cost £200.

I’ve got the Red Devil 56:

It’s fairly quiet, runs around 210-220W while benchmarking and scores ~7K in Timespy.

OC’d to 1667 core 930 mem with a 4.15ghz OC on my TR1900X and I can hit 7530 in Timespy. Card power goes up over 260W however. This card is roughly on par with a stock 1080FE or 2060. In a few games it’s as fast as a 2070. In a few games it’s around the 1070TI.

If it’s a good price and an aftermarket card it’s probably worth it. It will run any game out there at 1440P 60HZ at high - very high settings*

*usual caveats apply.

GTX 1080 is essentially only about 5% faster than the RTX 2060, especially with the newer drivers, when counting only DX12 and Vulkan games the RTX 2060 actually beats the 1080 by a decent 5%.

Though the difference between the RX 480 and Vega 56 wouldn't be that big, essentially about 35% performance increase, not really worth an upgrade. Though the RX 5700 might be worth it at $350, which offers GTX 1080 like performance.
