Question RX580 upgrade/install problems p67 extreme4

I got a good deal on an RX580 8gb XFX card.
The GTX280 i had in my aging i5 build finaly bit the bucket, just quit posting
got it to post with an old 8400gs long enough to get another card on the way
its on an asrock p67 extreme 4 board with the original bios, i never updated it too many people had problems after doing it
so long story short, i put in the rx580 hit the power button and im getting 97 on the led
manual says "console output device" which is the same definition to error D6 that i was getting with the gtx280
don't have another rig to test the rx580 in but have no reason to think its faulty
has anyone else ran into this or know of any tips?

That is an older board, you may need to update its BIOS to work properly with Polaris cards.

i saw reports that a high margin of the boards that flashed to 3.1 (only version avail on their site) bricked their boards and had to get new bios chips sent to them for $25 and had to do it via money order.

The bios flash on their site has to be done within windows 7/8, not found a reliable copy of the file to use the flasher in the bios itself.

I have a gen3 variant, but not tried a rx 480 or 570 in it. It still has a r9 290 in it. My guess though is that it is the bios and card not talking well to each other, a uefi bios issue vs older bios.
