Ryzen 3600 upgrade issues.

I'm current running a 1500X on a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming-3 MB and decided to pop in a 3600 after reading all the rave reviews. The result? PC fails to POST.

Now I updated the BIOS to the latest version which, according to https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/GA-AB350-Gaming-3-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios supports 3rd Gen Ryzen and have everything in BIOS set to Auto, including voltages. I returned the chip to the vendor, who confirmed it was dead, so I received a new replacement. After installing the replacement 3600, I get the same result - no POST. After both upgrade attempts, I reinstalled my 1500X with no issues, so I doubt I'm doing anything physical that would result in two dead 3600s.

Am I just that unlucky or do you think it's likely something I've done/not done?

Edit: Issue solved by removing one RAM stick, POSTing, then placing the second stick in different slots until I could POST with both installed. RAM in question is 2 X 8GB Team Group Dark Pro 3200MHz (C16).

I watched a video on YouTube where a guy has the same problems.

After a while, he figured out it was his Gigabyte motherboard that had BIOS issues supporting the new CPU. Apparently their BIOS support is a mess (with the last published BIOS back in May 2019).

I'll look at my computer's history later, and see if I can link the video.

Yeah, Gigabyte's BIOS update F40 is a bit wonky. I haven't directly heard that it caused outright chip failures, but I suppose that might be a possibility.

I upgraded this B450 AORUS PRO WIFI from Gigabyte, to BIOS F40, but I had to install BIOS F31 first, and do the EC Firmware update, which corrupted BIOS F31, and caused it to boot and re-flash the primary BIOS from the backup failsafe BIOS that was still on F4. So I had to re-flash again (with my 1600 installed), to F31, then F40, then finally a while later when the 3rd-Gen Ryzen CPUs came out, I bought a 3600 almost a week ago, and put it in.

It was a little harrowing. I didn't have my 1600 overclocked, but I was running XMP, and I didn't clear CMOS before dropping in the new CPU. (Probably would have been a good idea?)

It booted, like 3-4 times, sort of, I saw the front LED fans flash a few times, eventually, somehow, it POSTed, after a couple of minutes, but thereafter, it's been fine. It does take a while to POST after a cold power-off (when I unplug it to work on it).

And I lost my two SoC-driven SATA ports, they don't function. Some people have complained about their M.2 NVMe socket not functioning after BIOS F40 upgrade, and dropping in a 3rd-Gen Ryzen CPU (putting the older 1st/2nd-Gen Ryzen back in, causes it to work again, according to the thread I read on Gigabyte's user forums that was linked here a day or two ago).

Here's the video I saw (it looks like he updated with additional info since I saw it):

It's now working! I had to wait nearly 10 minutes of unresponsive reboots, but THEN it kicked on. So this is a heads up for everyone. If you're updating to Ryzen 3000... Give wait until it posts. However long that might be

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'm better off waiting for the next BIOS for my MB before attempting another upgrade.

I have same issue as OP , Gigabyte ab350m-hd3 updated bios 3 times with r3 1200 taking me from f23 to f41 but the ryzen 5 3600 just will not post , i wanted f41 as it allows pcie gen 4 but even trying f42a which is the newest it still fails to post , just restarts every 30 seconds

Edit : f42a still shows pcie gen 4 option when running r3 1200 but still the 3600 refuses to post , even after left it power cycling for over 20 mins.

I managed to sort the issue by removing one of my RAM sticks, getting it to POST, and then trying different RAM slots until I could get it to POST with both sticks installed. It was a fairly tedious process, but I got it to work in the end with everything set to default in BIOS.

Mine is working fine now , somehow missed doing the firmware update even though i had downloaded it , that reverted me to f10 i think so then had to flash upto f41 as i didnt want to loose the pci-e gen 4 ability ,
Ram is Corsair vengeance lpx 2x8gb kit 3000mhz cl15 , not had any nvme booting issues (sk-hynix pc300 512gb) so far , haven't tried an ssd as i don't have one spare.
Hope this helps.
