I saw the NJ one had 20 in stock a week ago but was out of town then. I'm not in a rush to buy it and will just wait until it's more common.

If you feel like driving to Yonkers, NY, they have 25+ in stock.

I would go there if I needed it quickly, but will be traveling soon anyway and the NJ one has a nice tax discount. I can wait until next year.

Looks like it 9800x3d was fully re-stocked in all 5 NY area stores today, including Northern New Jersey. Brooklyn store sold out nearly instantly. These CPUs are flying off the shelves like I have never seen.

Just picked it up from NJ, couldn't resist lol. They have plenty of them in stock there. It's questionable how noticeable it will be coming from 7800X3D but I thought $130-150 after selling that is just about worth it for big RPG games. I'm planning to play the Starfield DLC next.

you are guys are lucky to have stock in the states still nothing in canada.

Don't think I will be able to complete my upgrade until next year the way this is looking.

I got it setup. Probably the easiest CPU upgrade I ever did, just updated the bios and switched in the 9800X3D and turned on EXPO. I was used to Intel where you always have to change the board and all its drivers too, so I ended up rarely doing CPU upgrades. The box is a bit lamer than the cool fold out 7800X3D box.

The default VSOC is 1.2, which is lower than the 7800X3D and results in an idle package power about 10W lower as well. I installed Ryzen Master, might try overclocking but plan to just keep it at stock. The only issue is MSI Afterburner and RTSS don't seem to show the temp or power use. It worked on the 7800X3D. I'm not sure if this tool is maintained anymore but it's the only one that works with the old Logitech LCDs.

I loaded up a few games and couldn't see an obvious difference in an A/B test, might be more noticeable in heavy fights. Starfield's New Atlantis used to struggle a bit but I think game patches made that faster on both CPUs. The faster clocks and IPC should make it a bit better for old games which are all single thread bottlenecked.

They seem to be limited to Microcenter. I just got back from Canada. If I knew someone was looking I would've made arrangements. Oh well. I think the demand should die down after the holidays.

I use 23H2, since 24H2 breaks WMR headsets. But I doubt that would matter, the core switching is not an issue on the 8 core chips, although I have the AMD driver installed anyway.

Shipped and sold by amazon
Yesterday, shortly after the scammer episode, I checked Amazon, and it was like 12-3 Jan, keeps going up, quickly.

With respectable overclocks and settings, this is the end result

Cyberpunk was patched afterwards, but the rest of the results are solid. Bulldozer Lake. 14900K puts up a much better showing when tweaked, but who knows how long it will last under those conditions.

Mindfactory sold ≈8,700 Ryzen 9800X3D between launch and January 1 inclusive [53 days --> ≈160/day avg.] and another ≈5,500 after January 1 until January 11 [10 days --> ≈550/day avg.] (source). Apparently the shipment rate to the EU is improving.

What the heck was with the specs of the test PCs? I didn't have audio on but it seemed like a definite attempt to get an advantage for Intel (more RAM on Intel systems, and higher clocked RAM).

---

Re supplies of 9800X3Ds - in the UK, both suppliers I often use have them in stock.

It's all in the video description. Also the pinned comment -

A few notes:-9800X3D FCLK 2167MHz- Cyberpunk data for Arrow Lake was from before the patch addressing performance issues -"32GB for AMD vs 48GB for Intel", I've made a video recently on the channel showcasing performance differences between the 2 configs, and the result was basically 0 difference. -Why no 8000MT/s for Ryzen? Because you have to run the the mem controller at half speed which can actually hurt gaming performance. Outside of synthetics or some specific production workloads you're better off sticking with 1:1 ratio for Ryzen
