Mistakenly installed this on my Win 7 PC running a Ryzen 7 2700 (non X)

After installation (which yielded no stop/warning message indicating it was not compatible) it began to launch and immediately blue screened, upon restart windows crashed and rebooted. After some fiddling I managed to remove ryzen Master and windows then began to boot up normally.

However my cpu jumps from 15X multiplier, all the way up to around 37. Voltage is very erratic bouncing wildly from 0.7 to 1.4

I updated and flashed the bios (gigabyte 450M board)

No effect, should I simply RMA the CPU?

Anything else to try?

I use it mainly for monitoring. Anyway, I prefer to do most changes to UEFI/BIOS in the UEFI/BIOS.

Sorry i hurt your feelings, you seem hell bent on simply assigning blame and have not added anything of any value. Again why post at all?

The VERY first word I posted in this thread is MISTAKENLY...is it not?

I made a mistake, I conceded that off the bat. And I also conceeded there is documentation stating compatibility.

However the average user new to Ryzen or not up on all things Hardware may not be aware and there needs to be a safeguard in place that costs AMD literally nothing.

Anyway all of that is not the focus. Please do not post unless you have a positive contribution.
No. You mistakenly installed Windows 7 on a Ryzen system. Every other thing you make after that, you can't blame it on AMD. I mean, you can, but this is not wccftech or r/amdead or other echo chambers. You also can't bash intel senselessly either, so either sush your vanity and be thankful that such a place as this still exists, or just continue wiht this desperate charade and expect nothing but more of the same.

"However the average user new to Ryzen or not up on all things Hardware may not be aware and there needs to be a safeguard in place that costs AMD literally nothing. " -> now that is just surreal. Might as well put safety sensors into microwaves so they won't switch on when the average user doesn't read the documentation and puts a living cat into it to dry.

I kinda of agree....I don't like Software running on top of Windows making changes to the BIOS. Previously had a bad experience with Motherboard software that controlled some Fan settings.

After this thread and others I will continue making changes in the BIOS...even though it can be inconvenient at times.

That isn't the point. He is running an unsupported OS for his hardware and then added another unsupported piece of software into the mix and then blames others for having problems he clearly created himself.

The B450 does support win7. I know this because my B450 does. However, AMD power profiles don't work on it and other issues can result due to iffy support.

I would not recommend running Win7 at all. I was surprised that win 8.1 wasn't supported when I built my HTPC last year.

While that might be a confusing gimmick on your B450's side, none of the CPUs support it that you can use with that B450.

I don't think Ryzen cpu's had Windows 7 support from day one. Don't know about any specific motherboards. I use Linux and OSX anyway.

from Asrock:

It seems some CPUs do support Win7 64bit - summit ridge and pinnacle ridge

Check any of their motherboard specs, they all say Windows 10. Windows 7 is unofficially supported, and it shouldn't be used with any Zen CPU. Also, where is the source of that quote? How about drivers? Ever see a section for Windows 7? I haven't.

they absolutely do not

(I know they do work - why wouldn't they - and there are workarounds, but it's not supported by AMD)
I do agree about not using win7 with them. I was just pointing out that you sort can if you want to risk it.

Fine, I can do an eek too.

How would you respond to this? Not officially supported.

AMD's formal position on Windows 7 on Ryzen is that it is unsupported, and as a result this means they will not provide support around it

Just want to say this i have friends that hate windows 10 so they installed windows 7 and 8.1 on their computers with their ryzen cpus.
According to them 100% stable and functional. Zero issue, no blue screens, lockups, errors, ...

I understand what the OP did wrong. I was just commenting about running software that tweaks the BIOS.

Man you guys are giving this guy a pretty big amount of negative attitude. Yeah one should read the "bold print" about it being win 10 only and such. But the guy has a point. Having the installer detect the OS and abort install if not Win 10 isn't exactly magic. Any half competent programmer should be able to do it with with couple lines of code (getVersion + if/else).
If the software can nearly brick your computer if installed on wrong OS, making it hard to impossible to install on wrong OS is for sure not asking too much from the supplier.

I haven't known about ryzen master messing with the BIOS that hard. When I did RAM OC on my ryzen build for almost every failed attempt I had to reflash the bios. Guess I now finally know why.
