I'm thinking of ordering a Ryzen CPU & Motherboard. While it appears I can order the CPU with no issues, I've noticed that the motherboards don't seem to be available.

Has anybody read or heard when there should be restock on motherboards?

It also makes me wonder if motherboard manufacturers underestimated the demand?

The retailers will get weekly shipments, so just set up a stock alert or watch.

This happens with every launch of pretty much anything: Video cards, NVMe, consoles, etc. They always run out from an initial rush of orders. Heck, even the crappy Intel 600p sold out and was hard to come by for the first couple of weeks when people started reading the review on it.

You can actually thank them for being out of stock and allowing time for some software/BIOS fixes over the next few weeks.

There were 82 different motherboards for Ryzen's launch.

Half went to microcenter and the other half went to newegg.

Seriously though, the only thing I know is that a few can be backordered on USA newegg, and it says 2 weeks backorder.

Looking at ShopBLT, Ryzens seem to ship in batches of a couple thousand. Motherboards seem to ship in batches of 10 or 20. There's your problem...

Well limited motherboard supply is certainly an effective way to control market share. Is this what intel meant when they said they can 'manage' Ryzen's effect? It certainly wouldn't be the first time intel has 'managed' the market, there is a long history there, so color me suspicious. Designs are finished and boards were released to market. Have they suddenly forgot how to produce them in volume?

I've wondered since launch where these 82 different motherboards are. Newegg has shown 21 AM4 boards since launch.

You comment reminded me of my slot a Athlon motherboard that came in a plain white box from Asus. They were afraid of losing their Intel business by producing it so went with a generic box to appease them.

ShopBLT shows 28,552 Ryzen processors on back order, but only 195 motherboard on back order. (Everything AM4 related is out of stock.) I'm guessing that people are buying processors from ShopBLT and motherboards elsewhere. In any case, ShopBLT has some brands of AM4 motherboards that are scheduled to arrive before the next shipment of Ryzen processors.

I suspect Mobo Manufacturers are not too eager to flood the Market yet due to still trying to get their BIOSes working properly. Once they get things relatively problem free they'll start producing more.

asus crosshair is the only 1 having serious issues as far as I know.

It also shows all of the 1700X and the majority of the 1800X not due until April.

Newegg didn't get my board shipped yesterday as advertised either... now the page reads not available and out of stock.

EDIT: order #2 canceled

This motherboard shortage is really really bad. I heard a rumor this would happen, and I mostly believed it, but I didn't think it would be this bad. It's like the Rx 480 all over again...

That makes sense, if you ordered the crosshair. Asus isn't going to ship out boards that don't work.

The c6h is the one with the fatal bugs, but there are tons of bugs including memory speed issues.

But those aren't serious enough for them to stop shipments.

There are boards available.
Granted, the ones on high demand are almost always out of stock.

Newegg right now has a few boards available, including 2 X370 boards.
I am really itching to try the Biostar X370 Racing GT5, so I might take the plunge and get it.

the second I receive my "second pick" I just know my first one will magically become available somewhere. so, i shall wait.

i'd settle for a display model with no accessories at this point.

When I posted on Wednesday, ShopBLT showed all of the processors arriving on March 18. Now the number of processors on order has increased, but (except for the 1700), the estimated time(s) of arrival have been moved back. Don't know whether this means that AMD is receiving fewer chips from Global Foundries than expected, or just that the previously shown arrival dates were guesses not backed up by a claim on any particular chips.

i'm half expecting to open up my 1700 box to a note that reads "non-working, for display purposes only"

MSI shipping boards without the components for a clock generator?

Yes, that is a huge rush of things for MSI. It looks like mobo companies cared more about Intel's 200 series chipset release than AMD's new platform release. At least until they found out there is a profit to be made from AMD's launch and they (mobo makers) have dropped the ball.

AMD rewriting the firmware just a few months ago didn't help things though.

While Ryzen is a strong beast and will only get better, AMD maybe should have waited a touch longer before release. But things are already looking better, even with ram improvements.

AMD should've executed better strategic management over this product launch including ensuring that their motherboard manufacturers were actually ready to support the product. All new releases have some issues which will take some time to resolve and its all in how they accomplish that will win customer's confidence. I wanted Ryzen to dominate when it hit but it fell short in many areas that are important to the people interested in building with it. Am I a fanboy? Yes of performance only and will buy from whomever delivers it.

Quite the opposite. Not sure how anyone can conclude that Ryzen fell short in many areas..... It far surpassed expectations in all but a single area-gaming. Which as is normal, will be corrected with game optimizations. So that strawman is debunked.

I'm not expert in electronics manufacturing but have seen (took part in) new product launch. AMD demoed Ryzen in December, so I'm sure all MB manufacturers had final board design and decent qty for 0-series. At least they should have. So it looks really strange to me that some hardware components are missing. Plus, now when CPU is actually SoC, there are not so many differences in (hardware) design between different sockets. You know what you'll need for SATA, PCI-E, I/O, etc. Also, AM4 boards are actually available for half a year now, since OEM are selling BR APUs and A320 boards since September.

The biggest (not say the only) issue is BIOS. And that one can be updated anytime. MB manufacturers coud actually make large stock of AM4 boards in January, and just update BIOS before release. Whether it is in March 2nd or late Q2. Hardware would be the same. In my previous company, we have found some bug on control boards (complex one, almost like cheap PC MoBos ) few days before the assembly of final product has started. And had to update firmware on all boards we had on stock. It took additional resources, but didn't affect final product launch.

So I would say its mostly AMDs fault we have no good BIOS (and microcode and OS support...) at the launch. Which is not good for consumers, but not that bad either, since we know it will be updated in next few weeks or months. But supply issue is mostly MB manufacturers fault. I mean, they (some of them) actually admitted they put priority on Intels 200 series. Of course, there is minimum time from order confirmation to shippment, but that's the industry
