BTW, I have noticed there are several votes from people who have not posted results here, just voted, so there may be more than one person trolling this thread. I was really trying to get a realistic idea of what people can expect of an OC if they buy a Ryzen. So if we excluded those that have not posted, 3.8 is the lowest you can expect, up to 4.1.(so far)

Considering Silicon Lottery says a full 97%+ of Ryzen 1700 processors (lowest bin) can hit 3.8GHz+, and users report even the bundled stock AMD cooler can handle that OC, anything below 3.8GHz is either the world's unluckiest buyer or is holding back for some other reason.

Also, 21%+ of 1800X (again, per SL) can hit 4.1GHz so that's about as high as you should expect to hit (with the couple of exceptions of 4.2GHz+ I've seen out there which appear to be golden samples).

The 1700 have boost to 3.7 and xfr to 1785 or so.
The entire idea you cant 100% oc to 3.7 seems bogus to me as it does so itself all the time. Or what am i missing here?

Might be useful for some if we could append the mono make/model, bios version and the ram model no as well.

That way some like me can see which combination works best and buy accordingly

The 3.7 is for only one core ? or for a short time ? Somebody correct me, but yes, if it can do that even for one core or two, then it makes sense that it can easily be OC'ed to 3.7.

i wish that it were possible to set overclocked states for single threaded loads and various degrees of multi threaded loading, with voltages and fan speeds user definable.

AMD's precision boost is up to 2 cores @ the listed turbo (e.g. 3700MHz for 1700, 4100Mhz for 1800X). I wouldn't be surprised to see motherboard makers eventually add a Ryzen equivalent to the "multi-core enhancement" all-core turbo that some motherboard makers added for Intel quad core platforms.

If you can get > 4100MHz all core turbo stable your Ryzen 7 is a golden sample (or you're throwing close to ambient safe voltage at it - ~1.40-1.44V).

For what it's worth, 1800X *does* appear to be better binned at least on the voltage curve. My 1800X gives a VID of 1.368V @ 4.0GHz all-core turbo and < 1.21V @ stock speeds.

I should receive my 1700 and 2nd B350 motherboard on Thursday, so I'll post VIDs for my retail sample by Thursday evening.

Long time lurker, finally decided to join. Figured my first post would be my Ryzen OC

1700X at 3.8ghz at 1.33v
Asus Prime X370-Pro
G. Skill Ripjaws V 3200 C16 @ 2666 C16

I was having stability issues with the RAM at 2933 so I backed it off to 2666 and my problems went away. I'm sure the CPU will clock higher. It seems to want a decent bit more voltage to get to 3.9ghz and frankly I'm happy with how it performs and it's thermals at 3.8ghz so I'm just going to leave it.

Ryzen 1700 @ 3.8Ghz 1.325v
Asus Prime X370-Pro
Corsair LPX 3000 @ 2400Mhz 1.2v

Will update once new BIOS, RAM and cooler come and I can tweak some more.
What ram is it more specific? And what is the settings shown cpu z?

Not the case for the 1700 as pretty much any 8 core chip should be able to do north of 3.8GHz at 1.35V with ideal BIOS settings but under XFR Ryzen can boost voltages well north of 1.35V

"On the high-end models the actual (effective) voltage for the base frequency (e.g. 3.6GHz on 1800X SKU) can be anything between 1.200 - 1.300V. Meanwhile the actual (effective) voltage for the highest single core boosted PState (XFR, e.g. 4.1GHz) can be as high as 1.47500V.
In the tested sample the actual default voltage for the base frequency (P0, 3.6GHz) was ~1.25000V, while the highest single core boost state (XFR, 4.1GHz) defaulted to 1.4625V."

I tinkered with my OC last night. Going over 4GHz requires 1.4v or higher. Vote cast for 4GHz. I always leave my overclocks at the point it's trivial to achieve.

Biostar X370GT7
1700 @ 4GHz 1.3375v
G.Skill TridentZ 3200 @ 2933 14-14-14-14-34 1.35v

From Tom's review:
AMD predicts that most customers should see somewhere between 3.9 and 4.1 GHz across all cores, and suggests you stick with a 1.35V ceiling if you want your chip to last. Although core voltages in excess of 1.45V are considered sustainable, they'll have a more pronounced effect on longevity.

If AMD suggests a 1.35V ceiling for good life, I wouldn't exceed that by much.

Golden 1700 spotted! That voltage is lower than the VID on my 1800X @ 4GHz! Theoretically should require more voltage being binned for lower leakage (on average)!

Just finished my Ryzen build yesterday and have been tweaking and tinkering with voltages and memory settings. I have a R7 1700 (non X) in my Gigabyte X370 Gaming board and have it running stable at 4Ghz with 1.35v on air cooling. I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper T4 so nothing really exotic or expensive. I'm really impressed so far with the performance for the cost of this setup. Memory has been a bit of a pain in the ass as everyone knows with Ryzen but I have been able to get my memory running a 2933Mhz on my board with some tinkering to voltage and timings. Currently running the memory at 16-16-16-36 1T with 1.385v.

Do you have an idea of how your Cooler Master is performing?

I'm running mine at 3.8ghz *stable (with the stock cooler) for almost a week now doing lots of tasks.
I ran Prime95 for about 40 minutes to verify my RAM at 2933 was stable (as stable as 40 minutes would tell), and I saw temps in the mid 80's. The temp seemed to bounce between 70 and 86 based on where it was in the Prime95 test.
When not doing Prime95, but everything else I'm in the 58-65 range.

*stable = I've had the machine on the last three days non-stop exporting over 100,000 photos from my Lightroom catalog. LR seems to continuously have a modest load on all cores. The nice thing about the chip is I'm able to play Dirt Rally or Overwatch while the machine is doing this without much ill effect.

OK, I think I posted this before, but what is the highest airflow, but fairly QUIET 120x25 mm fans you can buy ? I need to replace the ones on my H100i. The originals are LOUD and the replacements ones don't pump enough air.

They *were* Scythe Gentle Typhoons. I personally use the AP14s, which are 3-pin non-PWM 1400rpm max that I control via a NZXT fan controller.

They have a relatively soothing low frequency sound, double ball bearings, and high static pressure. When a retailer was going out of business and clearanced the AP14s at half their going price, I uh, cleaned them out. Best 120mm fans I have by far.

I believe Nidec sells them under their branding directly now with black fan blades and they are imported to the USA as "Darkside" PWM fans. Made in Vietnam now, no idea if performance characteristics are similarly legendary... And they are ~$20 each...
