Wow - that's a tight race! Anyone take a picture of that finish? May have to study the pictures to be sure who won! Oh, OK...the winner is the TeAm!!!

We need to get our average back up to the 2000 area.

The longer the anticipation...the sweeter the taste!

Thanks for the stats.

Yep, gaining 1 WU on S@N is better than falling behind. We need to keep our average up and challenge them to keep up with us.

Thanks Hellburner!

I usually hang out in Hot Deals, Hardware and Off Topic but thanks to Assimilator1's recruiting efforts I expect to join TA SETI tonight.

Welcome, RossMAN. I know other people have been having problems joining recently because of Berkeley's recent "improvements" to their web server. If you need any advice on how to get the most out of your rig's spare cycles, this is the place to ask. What will you be crunching with?

(BTW, thanks for the stats, HB.)

Wow thank you every for the warm welcome. I'm more than happy to devote my WU to TA SETI.

If you need any advice on how to get the most out of your rig's spare cycles, this is the place to ask. What will you be crunching with?

Here's my rig, how do you guys think it rates in terms of raw WUH (Work Unit Horsepower?

Dell Dimension 4100
Intel Pentium 3/866
512MB PC133 CAS2 Crucial RAM
40GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
GeForce 2 GTS
Plextor 12/10/32A CD-RW
Samsung 12x DVD-ROM
Netgear FA310TX NIC
Windows ME OS
MS Office 2000 SBE
Beautiful Dell 19" P991 UltraScan (FD Trinitron) monitor
640k DSL

I already have SETI configured to run all the time when the PC is on. All I do is surf the Net in my $2,000 "Internet appliance" (as I refer to it).

E.T. I know you're out there and we're going to find you!

Is it possible to have several DC clients running at the same time? For instance SETI, RC5, cure for cancer, cure for AIDS, etc.? If this is possible (which I doubt) how do I do it?

Thanks again you guys rock!

Nice rig you got there RossMAN. I don't do SETI, but I do know the CAS2 RAM certainly improves WU times. I would guess 8-10 hours per WU. I'm sure the SETI boys will correct me if I'm too far out.

You can certainly run multiple DC projects at the same time. The CPU time is usually split between them, although SETI can hog resources if run with others. The UD (Cure for Cancer) project is a good one to run with another project because the scoring is done on a "time taken" basis, so if a WU takes twice as long because your running SETI with it, you'll get twice as many points for it. The UD client assumes it must be a larger block and awards more points.

Many people dislike the scoring method for UD because it favours people with broadband connections.

I would think you'll be using your rig best if you just stick to SETI.
Oh, and Welcome to the TeAm
