For the past couple of days people have been getting credit for the same WU's multiple times. Unless all teams have decided to make a giant push before the end it looks like the vast imajority of those results (70-80%+?) are duplicates.

The old SETI@home Classic project will stop issuing work on December 15, 2005. Anyone still running SETI@home Classic should deactivate it and install SETI@home/BOINC (see instructions under 'Getting started' on this page).

On December 15, 2005, after 6 years of operation, this project will shut down. But SETI@home is not going away. We're alive and well and running on the BOINC distributed computing platform. It's easy to switch over - just follow the instructions on the new SETI@home web site. We hope to see everyone there!

At the time of shutdown, the stats for this project will be frozen but will continue to be available on the web.

Thanks to all original SETI@home participants for their tremendous dedication to the project. You made SETI@home into something of lasting significance.

November 15, 2005: So SETI classic is shutting down in 30 days. It's finally official. I have a lot of other stuff stressing me out which needs to be done within these 30 days so this is going to be a very interesting month. In SETI-land, we need to deal with this master database merge which I've been ranting about in the Technical News. As well, we're just emerging from a frantic proposal writing period so we've all been quite busy with that.

I also have a solo show on the December 15th, the very night SETI@home Classic shuts down for good. It's no big deal, but I have to somehow find the time to teach a backing band the material.

...Which also is the same day SETI@home Classic shuts down for good. I don't think anybody looked at a calendar when we selected that date. Probably would have been better on a Monday.

4. The SETI@home Classic backend is a tangled mess. There have been many problems over the years, most of which were invisible to the participants. None of these problems were fatal to the project or its science, but have resulted in an obnoxious web of ridiculous dependencies, confusing configurations, and unweildy databases. I am practically drooling dreaming of day when we get to turn all that stuff off and be done with it already. The BOINC backend is sooooo much easier to deal with.

IV. We wrote about the outages less and less in the old SETI@home Classic tech news as time wore on. Same thing every week. Online cience database crashed. Server down for 12-24 hours. I don't know if anybody's noticed but the Classic servers have already crashed three times already this month. Had to kick 'em back to life every time. In fact, I think they're dropping connections right now...

So, everything points to "classic" shutting down roughly 11 hours from now...

That is, if "classic" doesn't crash yet another time in December, in that case it's likely they'll never re-start the servers again...

Turns out they kept their word ,in fact they killed it about 2hrs early ,though actually results were (& are) getting through after that
