Wow. SETI has 2 million systems and RC5 has only 190,000? I had no idea you guys were that big. Has SETI been at it longer?

Humm , I'm surprised to see Dnet may do a commercial project. There haven't been any real indicaors, so it's a bit unexpected.

Russ, SETI was started a long time after RC5-64 got underway. I believe that S@H was started about 1.5 years ago. RC5-64 is approaching its 3rd complete year.

Right, seti has just had a ton more press, plus I believe it is a more interesting topic. (I still do rc5 myself) Seti has had articles written about it in magazines like Popular Science, Omni, Time, and Newsweek. (Or so I have heard) That's a lot of publicity.

Russ - SETI can be run as a screensaver and it is easy to explain to Corporate folks why you want to run it. RC5 is very difficult to explain. If you're an administrator, then you can get RC5 in, but SETI sounds much better.

Plus I have been doing SETI for just over a month (like RC5) and I'm already in the top 80%. That means that I'm better than 1.6 million others. I bet a bunch of people try it for one or two work units and then uninstall or switch to a different screen saver.

I decided to compromise. SETI is running on my 2xc400 linux box (linux is much better at background processes) and my daughter's c433 (she's three and I took her outside and pointed out at the stars to explain that her computer was looking for "friends". My other computers (work laptop since the firewall is stopping SETI cold for I email fetch RC5, c566->850, and my old P233 and P120 are RC5ing away + the PhF). That way I support the two main Anandtech teams.
