Welcome all ,

Tell us your system specs

Aaron Busi

I believe you have a system with RDRAM ,we'd be interested to know what WU times you get

Thanks for the welcome! I'm Aaron Busi.
My system specs are:
Dual PIII 800 EB's
Intel OR840 motherboard
256MB PC800 RDRAM
Matrox Millennium G400
Quantum Fireball LM30
The system is running Win2k Pro

I run two instances of the seti 2.4 command line client at once to max out both CPU's. I get WU times of 5hr 51min to 6 hr 26 min for each instance. Since I'm running two clients at the same time the system produces 2 wu's in that time. Before I added the second proc. to my system it averaged about 5hr 30min per wu. I kinda doubt that the dual ported RDRAM on my system makes any difference in the wu s@h time but I really have no idea. Since the client only uses 14mb of ran according to task manager I don't think the client requires much memory bandwidth & the RDRAM's higher latency might actually hurt the s@h speed with RDRAM if it makes any difference at all.

A friend of mine has been running s@h on about 5-10 computers (I think a couple of which are dual PIII 550s) for a good while & has racked up 1572 wu's. He's not on a team so I'm going to see if he'd join our team. I can't promise he'll join but I'll try & talk him into it. =)

Whilst your right about SETI using 14Mb of RAM ,it does manage to tax the memory bus heavily ,eg 1 of my herd was a PII 333 (66MHZ FSB ,CAS3),it would average 12.5hrs/WU ,whilst my PII 233 @ 280mhz (2.5x112MHz,CAS2) is averaging 10.5hrs/WU!.
I believe the formula used by SETI is just above 512k ,hence it needs to access the RAM frequently (unless you have 1Mb+ Xeons of course).

I think your probably right though when you say that your high bandwidth is offset by the higher latency as far as SETI performance goes.Your WU times seem about average for the cpu clock speed & FSB speed you have ,of course they are still fast times

BTW we also have our own SETI/RC5 benchmark page ,why not enter your PC's specs & times ,you'd be our first RDRAM system in their
Here's the link

BTW I hope you can get your friend to join ,that would be excellent.Tell him about the stats ,UT servers ,& helpful forum
Hehe ,you could tell him too that we have free lap dancers come to your house on request
