I didn't like Stalker as much as a lot of the people on here & certainly wouldn't name it game of the year for 2007 by any means, however I did enjoy playing it & will buy this expansion as soon as its released.

2007 was a monstor year for gaming....

Stalker was definitely top 6... possibly top 3.

I installed it again once I got my 8800GTS 512mb. I need to play it some more though, I haven't even got past the first job.

One more thing that I forgot to mention. If you are going to compare STALKER to Crysis or Half-Life 2, please remember that the budget differences between the game developers are ENORMOUS. Average salary in Ukraine is $200-500/month, so you can imagine the difference.... Plus, the lack of experience and resources. But hopefully, Clear Sky would finally achieve that 'dream shooter' status that it aimed for 5 years ago...

Also, for all those curious what 'key 6' means - watch the Stalker movie by Andrei Tarkovsky and you will get the more complete picture of what the Zone actually is. Throwing bolts in the original game was mainly useless. The Zone will be more dangerous, according to the publisher, and exploring it would require a lot more skills and effort (read - more interesting to explore).

Here is a link to a Stalker Montage - notice the old rusty vehicles, bolt throwing, anomalies, and other similarities... the Zone. The movie was made in 1979 - 7 years before the Chernobyl accident.

BTW, If you want to drive cars in the original game + play through the slightly redesigned levels - I suggest you check out the Priboi Mod.

One of the things that drove me nuts about the original (and a bunch of other players as well, apparently) was how god awful inaccurate the weapons were. You absolutely needed to have one of the games top weapons to be able to reliably hit something more then 15 yards away, which could be more then a little frustrating. Having a scoped AK on single shot mode, firing crouched low, unmoving after letting the mouse-move inaccuracy settle out and still take 5 shots to get one on target was not fun.

Actually, that was one of my favorite parts of the game. It reminded me of when I went on actual exercises, and less like a video game. The realism of the game is what I liked, the fact that the enemies were your equals, and not significantlt weaker than you. (Although they all seemed pretty poor in comparison. None of them had much suff on them.) The fact that it took a while to get accurate and powerful sniper weapons was a good part of the game.

I agree, aiming/combat realism is one of the strongest aspects of the game.

What kind of aim do you guys have?

For gameplay purposes, I see why they did it... but to say it's realistic is a sure overstatement.

You guys normally get 4 foot groupings at 50 yards...... with rifles?

Man, I could watch these trailers and Clear Sky gameplay videos forever. This should be awesome if the keeps the atmosphere and desolate environment and only adds to AI and storyline....

Edit: OMG. That slide show is disturbing. I could not even finish it.

I get about a 3" grouping with an M-16A1 at 100M, but that is after taking a few seconds to slow my breathing, and while in the prone position. It takes me a few seconds to focus, and to time the natural sway in my aiming (I use the movement of the weapon to my advantage, instead of fighting it). Also it really depends on the quality of the weapon. With my roommates Kimber .45, I can get a 1-1.5" grouping at 10M, but with a H&K 9mm, I can barely get an 18" grouping at the same distance. Most standard combat rifles just aren't designed to be very accurate, they are designed to have stopping power and hit a man-sized target at specific ranges.

IMO that's what they need to play up in Clear Skies. Put in more suburban and city environments. Really hammer home the idea that this is a real place and real people used to live there. The game takes on a whole new light in this context.

New gameplay footage that better depicts what clear skies will be like, including dev commentary.

Before i thought it would be like the FEAR expansions but it looks like a real overhaul of the game. The faction warfare is what really got my attention. He also mentions better path finding AI which would be REALLY nice as it kills the mood of the game when you see AI's walking through clearly visible anomalies and getting killed.

Now if only you could recruit your own squads to what you want to do (and have a need for them).

I get 2 feet groupings at 100 M. The problem is that you have the best aim in the world in the game, but the devs purposefully put some extra variables that make the bullets fly in random direction.

The bullets in this game do not go straight.
