I looked at it a lil bit, mainly video clips pertaining both to the development of the game and the Chernobyl incident itself (although the one clip about Chernobyl that I watched didn't provide much info, it was just random imagery...). Relatively useless .

Always if possible show proof/link of what you've read or heard.

Stalker Thread in AT Software Forum

He's right. The user reviews are a little scary thus far. You should read the other forums on our own humble little site

and you should read more than our humble little site. ATOT is pretty much the only site that has bad user reviews. everyone at all the other sites seem to love it.

You just made my point Pontifex. Thanks. The guy was looking for dissenting or disagreeing opinions. There aren't very many, but there happen to be alot on AT. I can't link a whole bunch because there aren't many. But there are some. I actually like the game alot now. I'd recommend this for $40 retail....

Why blamed Gogamer?
It's our beloved USPS.
I had stuffs shipped to me that took 3 weeks. It must be using the old fashion way: foot.

used the shipping that cost 3.99 or so over the 2.50 one and got it on friday at my door. Game looks very nice but my ole AGP x850xt can't handle the dynamic lighting. But if i use no dynamic lighting i can max out everything with 1600x1050 and still have 40-50 fps. But alas i wish it were cold again so I could overclock my components more.

Indeed, the one time I ordered something using their 'dirt cheap' shipping, it took two weeks - the thing was being shipped from Arizona (or something like that) and apparently had to pass through Minnesota before arriving here, in California...

My 2 cents on this game is its pretty enjoyable. Sure it has its bugs....I haven't seen any yet personally. Its a little quirky as far as the AI but what I really love is the atmosphere. It's kinda spooky or maybe ominous is a better word. I get tired of the run and gun and this is a nice change of pace. All I can say is, I can't wait to get home to play it some more. I didn't have this urge when I tried Oblivion. Thats good enough for me

Couple suggestions

-Save often!
-Plan on dying A LOT!
-Give it a while before you quit. I was a little put off at first but it grew on me.
-If your game is running slugish try changing rendering to static instead of the other two options. The game was running like crap until I change this setting. I can max everything else now and it runs smooth as butter.

Picked up my copy @ CC last night and have been playing quite a bit.
In deed it's game play is definitely interesting, 2/3 FPS & 1/3 RPG, I must add.
Overall the graphics are not quite up to that of Oblivion's but still not bad.
My rig (7900GTO) which has no problem handling the game at full HDR and maxed out settings @ 1680x1050 resolution and still averages over 30fps using FRAPS measurement technique.
I do have some slight lags here and there when venturing outdoors. Otherwise it's pretty smooth most of the time.
Not bad at all for what I paid for ($29.99+tax) considered it's a new release.

Grabbed one myself at CC on the way to St Louis yesterday. Installed and got to play a few minutes on my tl-56/go7600 notebook seems to play pretty well at a high res so far. Didn't do much at all... so... tired....

A word to the wise, this game has made me reallly nauseated and motion sick from the ammount of camera movement, i don't know why this is, or if it is probably just me, but if you find yourself getting sick from games this is probably the case...i think it is because they actually put you inside a persons eyes, and all the side to side movement just makes you want to throw up on yourself...

It kind of sucks because i've been waiting for this game for awhile, and the premise seems kind of cool, a wide open FPS with quests and stuff. Anyway those are my two cents.

Not to demean your pain.. but thanks for the good laugh today.
Typically for those of you who do feel a bit of motion sickness try this.. Play until you just about puke.. stop for 2 days.. do it again.. you'll be up to 8 hour sessions in no time.. lol.
Seriously.. most folk do aquire their "sea legs" after playing FPS a bit.

I dig this game so far.. the first patch is out.. BUT it will make you start over.. I plan on doing that tonight.. I've had a few quests I couldn't finish and the guys basically dissappeared. There are TONS of unique weapons/armor/etc laying about.. search HIGH and LOW for them. There's a thread on it that I googled but I'm not at home to post the link. They really help make the game a bit easier on your soldier.. hehe. The closest thing I have played like this game was Vampires the masquerade.. All in all Well done.. even with the bugs.

It's still giving me tons of problems under Vista but the first patch helped somewhat. Also, running the game in XP SP2 compatibility mode in Vista helps matters tremendously.

I think that I may put this game on the shelf for 2-3 months and revisit it once it's been patched a few more times. I haven't played such an immersive FPS since the Deus Ex games years ago.

So far so good as far as the 1st patch.
Having played only a couple hours after installing the patch so it's still way too early to tell.
