S-Video out dumb question

I have two different two channel ATI video cards and I was wondering how the S-video out connector works. I want to setup a NTSC home theater system and use the PC as a DVR with a TV card. The problem is how to get video out to the TV?

My first question is: Does the S-Video out connector work off of monitor one or monitor two?

Second Question is: What resolution is the output to the S-video?

Third Question is: Are there settings to control the output of the S-vidoe.

I can't find anything in my manuals about the S-video connector other than the fact that is it there.

1) I believe 2.

2) 1024 x768 is the max I think, could be wrong here though.

3) There should be a TV-out setting somewhere in CCC.

2) You can /feed/ a high resolution, but the SVideo /signal/ will never be more than 480 lines in NTSC. Horizontal actual resolution is around 360 pixels - but for practical reasons you'd be selecting 640x480 to get an exactly reproduced picture out to SVideo.

Do you have an HDTV?

If your tv has dvi, hdmi or vga these will be far better solutions before using S-Video

Component might be useful too over S-Video

What Graphics card, what monitor/tv?

Right now I am just going to hook it to a standard analog NTSC CRT TV set. I have analog cable and should be ok for a few more years. I do plan to get an HDTV at some point but am waiting for them to come down. They are almost there. I expect that soon you will be able to buy a 50 in LCD for around $1000. I just ordered an S-Video to RCA composite cable to hook into the video inputs on my TV. I think I will build a dedicated HTPC at some point and integrate all my music and video into one box instead of 3 or 4 like it is now. I will be able to get rid of the CD player, DVD player, Casset Deck, and VCR with one computer. I won't do this until I have an HDTV. I am just learning and playing at the moment with existing unused PC's and cheap $20 TV cards. The HDTV will also be the monitor so that will make life alot simpler. I may also run CAT5 cable from my router to my entertainment center so I won't be limited by the WiFi bandwith. I have a nice A/V reciever and surround system now so the HTPC and the HDTV will fit in with it nicely. I doubt I will mess with HD DVD's anytime soon but just going to DVD 640x480 will be a big step up from NTSC on a CRT TV.
