S1590S Trinity 100AT Troubleshooting

Here's a little blast from the past.

I am attempting to finally upgrade my old FIC-503+ Mobo to an S1590S Trinity 100AT motherboard. I transferred all of my old components from the FIC to the Trinity. The system will now not boot. No beep codes no video (blank screen, yellow light on monitor).

Below is the e-mail I sent to Tyan. You guys are always so knowledgeable, I thought I would throw this out to this group for some suggestions. The ONLY addition to the system is an additional 128MB PC 100 chip, which would bring the total system RAM to 256. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

Gentlemen, I have just gotten around to upgrading my K6-III 450 PC from a FIC-503+ motherboard to your subject motherboard.

I have installed all components (all of which were in good working order and have simply been transferred from the old board), and can't seem to get your board to boot.

I turn the system on, power supply is working, the CD light comes on, the floppy drive light comes on, but I have no video (the light on the monitor glows green VERY briefly and then switches to yellow), the CPU fan is running. There are no beeps from the pc.

According to your manual, no beeps and no video indicates possible bad IDE wire or drive. The drive is fine, and I have tried several different IDE wires to no avail. Also, the floppy drive light is staying on.

Outlined below is a complete listing of my system

MOBO - S1590S 100AT (BIOS Revision 1.5 as stated on your manual)
256 MB PC 100 RAM
AMD K6-3 450 CPU
2 hard drives on Primary IDE controller
(WD 2.5 GB 5200 RPM - master)
(Maxtor 6.5 MB 5200 RPM - slave)
56X CD-ROM (secondary IDE controller)
3dfx Voodoo 3000 video card
Philips Seismic Edge sound card
US Robotics 56K Fax/VoiceModem (internal ISA)

I can appreciate that this board is outdated, but it IS new out of the box. I just have not had the time to install it. I have installed motherboards before (the FIC board that the Tyan is replacing was actually the SECOND board I had done, I decided to switch to the Tyan cause I'd heard so many good things about it). Any assistance you can provide is most appreciated.

Check your motherboard core voltage jumpers/dipswitches and the split V I/O jumper for your K6-3. And as I recall my 1590s was very finicky on the ram used. It has been a long time ago. Good Luck

DevilMech- First, good luck on getting a helpful (if any) response from Tyan's e-mail support. Most likely, if you actually want to get some type of support going, you'll have to call them = $$$. This is of course based on my (and some others) experience with them a while back, so maybe they have changed, although I doubt it.

As maddmax stated, check your jumpers/switches. I seem to recall that Tyan released some revisions to the S1590 manual, so you might want to make sure that they didn't update settings that could be affecting you.

Also, you might want to flash to this BIOS, as it offers the latest (and probably final) features/fixes.

Also, try and Ask/Search over here, as this is the last dedicated Socket-7 forum I know of.
