Well, I just got my notice from Tankguyz that my Opteron 144 pre-order was being filled and is going to ship on Tuesday, along with the rest of us that have Opteron 144 pre-orders with them. In the notice, it mentioned that the stepping was most likely going to be the new CAB2E stepping. I did a quick search on the XS Forums, and could not find any overclocking data on a CAB2E, so once we all start getting in our CAB2E's this upcoming week, let's post our overclocks in this thread so we can get an idea of how well the CAB2E stepping stacks up with the rest!

In the meantime, since we don't have any CAB2Es just yet, if those of you with other s939 Opteron steppings wish to post their overclocking adventures in here, please feel free. I'll make a compilation of overclocks. If you could, include as much of the following as possible:

*Example*
CPU/Stepping: Opteron 144 CABNE 0540 FPBW
Max Stable OC: 2.96ghz @ 329HTT
Voltage: 1.55v
Stability Test: Prime95 small FFTs 12 hours
Mobo: DFI NF4 Ultra-D
PSU: PCP&C-510
Memory: 2x512MB Geil Ultra-X @ 263mhz 2.5-3-3-7 w/8:10 divider
Cooling: Zalman CNPS-9500 @ full RPM
Case/Case Cooling: Antec Sonata II w/120mm intake & 120mm exhaust
Ambient room temp: 78F
CPU Idle/Load temps: 40C/52C
Verification if >2.8ghz: *link to screenshot with prime95/CPU-Z/speedfan/etc. running*

Good luck. If your previous Sempron 2800+ thread is any indicator, we should get good info out of this thread as well.

woah .. thats a bit of a weird stepping i mean the 2, i thought you made a typo on the title until i read the post, so far we have had:

CABNE: absolutely amazing with an average OC of 3.0Ghz+ with under 1.5v
CABYE: still very good with an average OC of 2.9Ghz
CABGE: just an average 3700+ OC of around 2.7Ghz

I wonder what this new stepping will bring.

GOOD LUCK

dfi-street listed the CAB2E were better than CABGE but poorer than CABYE

Rich: I was perusing XS Forums, and I was seeing later CABGEs hitting 2.9ish. Maybe the later batch of them is better, more like the CABYEs? It almost seems like we can't just rule out a stepping as bad, and that we're going to need to compile overclocking data by production week, which I'll be more than happy to do.

Coomar: Hey, as long as CAB2E is decent, then we should still be able to see some 3's
I hope I can decide on what freakin HSF I want to get, before it's too late and I get stuck using my Zalman CNPS7000 ALCU. I really wanted the Big Typhoon, but it's just too heavy for my comfort, since I move my computer about for LANs and such. I've been giving the Scythe Ninja and the SI-120 some thought. I've seen a couple reviews say the SI-120 is infinitesimally better, and the same goes for the Ninja. I think I will just go for the SI-120 since it is much lighter, and cooling should be about the same.

yes i totally agree, the week in which it was manufactured is also very important. For instance i originally set out to purchase an Opteron 148 CABNE 0528GPMW, which are supposed to do 2.9Ghz on stock volts, and about 3.2Ghz with ~1.45v, this stepping i believe has currently been the best silicon produced so far, being it FX57 silicon, however some other week CABNE stepping silicon only made it to 3Ghz on air (I say only ) .

Unfortunately my purchase fell through as the company i was buying from ran out of stock :| and sent me an email the next day saying so. So i went on to buy the Opteron DC 165, because in my eyes if 3Ghz was not a dead cert (as i could have purchased a 148 CABYE) then i would have rather purchased a dual core so here i am now

Ohh and another vote for the light and effiecent SI 120, also with some panaflo goodness, check the bottom of this page for specs on 120mm panaflo fans

I've already got a couple Panaflos waiting just for this. I think they are the Ms, as they do about mid 80s as far as CFM, but aren't that loud. They just emit a low purr, which is fine by me. Pretty powerful though. It's going to be windy city for my Opty

Then you must have missed this xs thread: Opteron 144 CAB2E 0540 FPMW. Not one 3ghz amoung them... but it's still early yet.

I was hoping the CAB2E opty's would be a little bit better than what I'm seeing so far since the CAB2E 0531RPMW FX57 showed such an amazing overclock.. Evidently, the production week does make a big difference.

I specifically typed in "CAB2E" into the search. It's not my fault that 90% of the forums on the net have the worst search function ever

Anywho, one guy in that thread is claiming 2.83ghz @ 1.55v, another is priming 2.83ghz @ ~1.5v, and it seems like that is also about as good as the OP is going to get, prime stable. Then we've got IceMole claiming his is priming at 2.8 on stock voltage.

Those four reports sound good, but I'm going to take them with a grain of salt, and will not post them in my thread due to lack of details/verification/stability.

it seems we got the throw the dice stepping

DFI streets opinion of steppings

Single Core Steppings: The list below is a general guide to the strength of steppings from best to worst (as determinded by their probability of reaching 3GHz):

1. CABNE 05xx (excluding 0540)
2. CABYE 0540
3, CABNE 0540 / CABYE 05xx (excluding 0540)
4. CAB2E 05xx
5. CABGE 05xx

It should be known that CAB2E's are more variable than other steppings. They are a bit hit or miss, a fact which diminishes their probability of hitting 3GHz. Many do, but many are stuck below 2.75. This assessment will be reviewed periodically as more info becomes available.

Let's hope this isn't the case for our chips shipping this week
Good luck to everyone receiving theirs.

A guy on ocforums has a CAB2E 0540 running stable at 3060.9 Mhz.

3Ghz can be seen with these

its weird mine hasn't come yet, they sent it from detroit to chicago and then i'm guessing it went to toronto (canada receiving) and then come down to windsor

its kind of funny when windsor/detroit are twin cities

Think of it this way...
Somewhere along the line, Inspector Clouseau is working on your delivery.
(My guess...he works for U.S. customs.)

I just got my cab2e 540(opteron 144). Right now I have 2.7ghz @ 1.425volts stable with prime95 for 8 hours. I am working on my patriot xblk memory, and I am still running it with a divider right now(so many memory settings with dfi!).

Adamcz28, Harbin, Pastorjay: Can I have more of your system specs and test conditions?
I've got a form at the top of my thread that I'd really appreciate if you filled out as much as possible. Then I'll add your data to my OP.

Btw, pastoryjay:

Those CABYE 0540's are monsters
Matter of fact, everything I've seen coming from the 0540 week has been excellent, even the CAB2Es.

I have mine running at 1.64 volts. Load temps are around 56-60c on a Zalman 7700. I've run it at 1.69 volts for a couple of days but it didn't help my overclock much, so I put it back down. Hope that helps.
