I've been googling for awhile, though. It seems like a 2.8g chip on low volts to me-- but usually tops out well before 3g. If I get 2.6 I'll be satisfied, but 2.8 would make me happy.

Oh, and a few posters I've seen mention that the CAB2E's have the 'cold bug' but are good on air.

What do you mean by 'cold bug"? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

From what I understand, it means that it won't overclock well if you have a liquid nitrogen cooled system, and the cpu temp is, you know, below freezing or whatever.

I just thought I'd mention it, because I saw a few different people say it on different forums-- and it was one of the few consistent comments about CAB2E I saw. Whether it's true, or just chicken little kind of stuff, I dunno.

As for 0546 FPAW, I've seen people say they can't hit 2.5 w/1.6 volts, and then some dude would chime in and say 'I can do 2.9 on stock volts w/MY 146 Cab2e 0546 fpaw'. Some say it needs few volts and runs cool, others say it is hot and not very good. The other 0546 codes like GPAW have a lot more google hits and at least appear to overclock better.

What I haven't seen is anyone say they can get 3g with their FPAW, which makes me think it will be a decent but not great overclocker-- 2.7-2.9 maybe.

Cold bug is when the chip gets too cold and it plays havoc with the on-die memory controller. Basically it gets cold and it starts locking up prematurely. My 148 0547gpmw is cold bugged. On air it easily clocks past 3 Ghz, but when i put it on phase change i couldn't even get it to 3. HTT locks up past 260. It even locks up when it had it loading at +3C. So it is a very bad cold bug. It is related to the memory controller revision, the CAB2Es are B2 memory controller (thx s7ephen and fcg), and these seem to coldbug more than other memory controllers.

I'm on the Asrock Dual Sata2, so I'd have to flash the bios for more, since the board caps at 274.

It feels like this chip has more in it, but Ima wait a few days.

Same exact CPU/MB setup here. I to need a different BIOS, and I feel this CPU has plent of OC'ing room left.

30 mins SP2004 tested stable so far.

What board Makaveli? That's right about where I am at with my 0540, temps and voltage on my SLI-DR. I'm using the 704-2bt BIOS.

I'm on a Msi Neo 2 Platinum With the Sideeffect Modded bios 1.B.

At work right now, and let it running SP2004. But the time I get home should almost be 12 hours after I started it.

I did get a crash and blue screen 30 mins into a game of CS source last night. so upped the voltage to 1.4v in bios instead of stock.

It was priming at stock voltage, and Super PI was fine aswell. So i'm not sure if the Crash is still Voltage related or something with just CS source.

Will update with status when I get home and screenshot.

Hmmm, I am waiting for my new memory to arrive before I try to overclock more than I am now. I have a question about the NB voltage setting - my evga motherboard has the option to change it - should I raise it above 1.5v for stability?
I am watercooling with the resorator system and I am showing 52C under load right now (using the MyGuard app relying on the motherboard stock sensor). Seems hot as I am only overclocking to 2142MHz right now. Without load the temp sets aroun 30C.
I am wondering if I did not apply enough artic siler to the cpu block or something like that??

so far i have it @ 2.9ghz 1.48v 12hour prime95 stable. dont have my watercooling in the case atm so thats on the standard AMD cooling lol ill try for 3.0 & over when my W/C goes back in.

i dont remember the rest of the letters of the steping but if needed ill pop off the heatsink & let you know.

I have an Opteron 146 CABGE 0536 VPMW on an ASRock SLI32 with 2x1GB Transcend (Samsung UCCC) Ram.

Cant get it to pass 240 FSB. Memory goes higher but cant get the CPU to work @ 250 no matter how low i set the memory (all low, command rate, timings, dividing etc)

I am thinking its maybe the temps as i had to improvise a bit with the AC Silencer 64 Ultra TC to make it fit while avoiding the SB heatsink (HSF has two levers and the second is being blocked by the chipset heatsink) but i am not sure yet. (surfing and CoolnQuiet enabled = 41-42 degrees)

Any ideas?

I have an opty 144 cab2e 0602 gpaw running @ 3.0ghz 1.425v 24hr prime stable w/ a zalman 7700alcu. Idle is like 27c, and load is around 40c.
