I disagree. If the memory if the name is strongly associated with annoyance and dislike, this could easily make a potential customer less likely to buy than if he did not have that association at all.

And yet Geico and Freecreditreport.com somehow stay in business. So much for that theory!

Watching the local football game Sunday, I found that repetitive commercial rather annoying mainly because it was so repetitive. But I figured that without the Toyota commercial and some similar GM commercials. I'd eventually have to pay to watch the game as commercial sponsorship would dry up. I wonder if The Fixx gets royalties from the ad.

The Fixx was one of the best 80s bands, but yeah, that commercial is annoying. However, I rarely hear it thanks to my Tivo.

Ah, the "Head-On: Apply directly to the forehead" strategy.

You do remember what the product is.
You do remember the product benefit (in this case, money savings).

But will it sell the product? That's what the BIGGEST point of advertising. The aim of this commercial isn't brand-building (which is what you're thinking of) it's trying to sell their stuff. Looks like it's turning off the target audience more than anything though.

I will never buy head-on. NEVER the commercial is so annoying there is no way i would.


as for the Toyota commercial it seemed like every time they took a break in the football games the other day. it so damn annoying.

If they were going to rip a "The Fixx" song, they should have gone for One Thing Leads to Another.

They could have had some dweeb walk into a dealership, hop into a Solara convertible (sorry...it's the sportiest car they make) and then as he pulls off the lot, some hot model jumps into the car with him and her head disappears.

They're carpet-bombing sporting events, especially NFL games, with this POS ad. Live event = less DVR's skipping it. I've seen it played in back to back commercial breaks more than once, I think it was shown twice in less than 3 minutes during one of yesterday's games.
