It seems to be rare that these ever go on sale.....

Looks like most SACD's are $10.98 or under (from what i can tell), just search for SACD to find their selection....

http://www.sonymusicstore.com

Free shipping over $25 and there is also a 20% off coupon floating around if you use American Express.

Most SACD are hybrid these days, so you get the SA on special CD players, but normal ones play the normal CD audio. Its the old chicken and egg thing.

what advantages/features does sacd have over regular cds that would make you to purchase it over regular cds?

n/m, just found this:

DSD: the recording technology behind SA-CD

Super Audio CD uses a new and radically different technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original wave form of music. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range ? some 64 times higher resolution then CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just can?t hear on a normal CD.

The Direct Stream Digital? pulse train "looks" remarkably like the analog waveform it represents. More pulses point up as the wave goes positive and down as the wave goes negative.

I thought DVD-A was more about multi-channel and what not. For pure stereo music I always thought SACD was the choice.

WRONG! might be better for multichannel, and maybe has a better chance of becoming rip-able, but SACD is the (technically) better sounding medium. it's kinda apples and oranges, though. DVD-A is simply higher res standard PCM audio (24bit/96or 192 khz vs 16bit/44.1 khz for cd), but SACD is a whole new way of digitizing audio...and technically much closer to the original by all accounts I've read.
