Sad day for Newegg

I have been ordering thousands of dollars worth of PC stuff over years and years from Newegg because the shipping was cheap and fast. I ordered a PC Monday night... it is now Thursday and the thing is still in step 2 of 5. I finally have a weekend off and was hoping to build my PC and play HL2 (you know how it is) but now it looks like I'll be twiddling my thumbs. I hope this does'nt become the norm for them.

I agree. You sure you didn't order something that wasn't in stock and they were waiting for the item to fill the order? All of my NewEgg orders have either been shipped the same day or next day.

I've ordered several things from Newegg, but it wasn't until my last order that the item didn't ship on the same day I ordered. But it did ship the next day . So I really can't complain.

Man. You guys are nuts.

You people praise God for Newegg for doing what they're supposed to do as a reseller, and then you chastise them for making one mistake or not having something in stock for immediate shipping.

Does anyone know why I'm happy to not work for a VAR anymore?

Save it for when they charge you a 15% restocking fee for returning defective merchandise or ship you three bad video cards in a row. I'm sorry that what's probably a back order is holding up your build. I usually factor in "waiting" as a penalty for buying online.

There I would have to say would be bad customer service. Since when would the customer have to call the vendor for a credit card descrepency? That should work the other way around.

I rarely order from them because their free shipping to Florida takes like 5-7 business days. ZipZoomFly generally has similar items / prices but with 2nd day shipping so the choice is simple--well it was.

ZZF recently sent me a 'serviceable used part' instead of a new item as described. [A hitachi 40GB laptop drive] When I complained, they wanted me to send it back at my cost and they'd reimburse me up to $7 should it be as I described and then send me a replacement. (Now that 2day item is at least 10-14 day turnaround. I presume since they had no clue the replacement would also say serviceable used part on it as well... but who knows, maybe just a fluke.

I was a bit ticked at that, and could have raised more of a stink about it and maybe gotten different results (could have contested charges, etc) BUT I contacted the manufacturer and verified on the website it carries the same warranty as new and the drive tested OK so I just kept it w/ print outs of all documentation on the matter.

They still haven't updated their webpage that those particular items are possibly used.

Sad thing is, I'll order from them again in the future, I've had decent luck with them and will give them another shot.

Don't get me wrong, I still love Newegg, I just hope it isn't signalling a problem that will last a long time... I'll still be ordering everything from them. This is simply strike 1.

I placed a big order on Monday (11/15) around 1pm, I rushed it and picked 2 day shipping. By Wen. morning they still showed the order at step 2.

Part of the shippment (the case) showed up Wen. afternoon. Went online and they still showed my order at step 2.

After calling them, I was told there was a system issue that delayed some orders and prevented others from being updated online. The rest of my order should show up Friday.

Give them a call.

As per my last thread. I ordered a part from them on Tuesday 11/2. I received the item this week on Tuesday 11/16. They did up it to 2 day shipping for me without notice.

Seems very unusual that there would be a prob with Newegg. Have you received an email from them confirming your order? The only thing that makes sense is that something is backordered. I have ordered from them and they had a prob with my company CC, but they emailed me like the next day and straightened everything out. But you are right hopefully this does not show a sign of what is to come. That would be a sad day indeed. BTW I agree ZZF is great about getting your orders to you very quickly and the free two day is really nice.

funny we ordered something on the same day, mine showed up yesterday (now that was FAST )
too bad i cant use it cuz it didnt come with a dvi-vga converter

Why should ZipZoomFly take your word for it that the drive is a refurb, issue a call tag and send out another drive ahead a time? I realize the "customer is always right," but I've had people assume that a part is used simply because of a spec of dust.

I realize the turn around time is now much longer, so why not work out a deal with them? Return the drive for a FULL refund (part + freight) and the $7 and go ahead and just order another drive.

Why assume that yet another drive would be a refurb? You're acting as if they're knowingly selling refurb drives as new. Why assume that they're going to change their website to say that the drive "may be used" if they're certain that they SHOULD BE new?

Here's how this happens: ZipZoomFly has drives to RMA back to the manufacturer. If the drive's within a certain time frame or there's no refurb available, they get a new hard drive. If ZZF take a little long to return a drive and it's outside of a time frame, they probably will get a refurb as a replacement EVEN IF the original drive was a brand new, DOA drive. The drives go out to Hitachi, let's say in a box, 20 at a time and come back 20 at a time. They're going to put those drives right back on the shelf with the new ones because those drives are only going to make up about 5% of their total inventory of that model drive, and of that 5%, only 5 to 10% of them may be refurb drives. So less than 1% of your hard drive inventory may be refurb drives. So let's change the website to reflect this! Honestly, what they should do is pull all of the refurbs out and save them for RMA replacements for their customers, but sometimes $6/hour warehouse workers don't comprehend the importance of good customer service and 15% profit margins don't justify better paid warehouse personnel!

One thing to keep in mind is they are doing a good job of keeping you informed of your order's status. Something that is much more aggravating is dealing with a company that tells you something has been shipped when it hasn't.

Just an update....

I ordered from Newegg Monday night and now it's Friday morning. My stuff is still in Step 4 of 5. I'm still waiting on a shipping number from newegg.

i ordered a Seagate 160GB harddrive from newegg on Tuesday (purchased @ 1:30 pm EST) it was shipped out same day and recieved by me yesterday... newegg has never let me down...

Apparently they are just having trouble with the webtools on their site because the stuff is in the truck to be delivered today... now if I only didn't buy that damn 9600XT refurbished missing the proprietary connector........................
