That's a great piece, but wouldn't make the list if it wasn't for the final scenes in Platoon. Perhaps it could be mentioned when the next 'saddest scenes in a movie' thread gets posted.

I actually dislike it with Platoon and the other movies it is in. It doesn't do the piece justice because you are preoccupied with the movie.

It is better with your own internal reflection IMO. Nice surround stereo and a few drinks with the lights low. Most powerful I think.

(Edit: And I was given this as a gift before even seeing Platoon)

I have to agree. I just ordered some Barber from one of my music clubs.

I play the bagpipes in a pipe band. We can usually get someone to cry when playing Amazine Grace or Flowers of the Forest.

It's a nice piece, but it doesn't bring tears to my face, which For My Fallen Angel can the moment I listen to the lyrics. Sigur Ros the same: nice music, but not really saddening or depressing.

I just can't call this a sad song despite it's intentions. It rocks too hard (yes, I love it)

I think "isn't it a pity" is a better GH suggestion, and especially Elliott Smith's cover of it.

I have to also say that I've been biting my lip for pages over the people posting crap like Nickelback & Lincoln Park.... you've got to be kidding me. Sad, no. Painfully bad? Ding ding!

I would cite the St. Matthew Passion in its entirety (Bach). Several of the choruses and arias of that piece can almost bring me to tears, which says alot.

The St. John Passion would have to follow that up, the second to last chorus in particular.
