I would like to know it was a country home or a city home. i will assume since it was a foot patrol it was in the city.

you need to keep the dog on a leash or in a fenced in yard. the article says there was a wireless fence but no signs.

i blame it on the owner not the police. though he did act to fast but understandable.

Uh, they had an electric fence. I have an electric fence around my yard as well, my dog doesn't have to be on a leash as long as it's in MY YARD. I have no problem with an officer defending him/herself if 1) the dog got outside the fence and was menacing, or 2) the officer had to come into my yard for official duty (like chasing a bad guy) and had to defend themselves.

Killing a dog for simply barking inside the yard of the owner seems absurd.

I don't know anyone that has any flags or other indicators in my area. Maybe it depends by region. I can understand that the cop can't just sit around and wait, but I mean think for a second before you kill a family pet inside someone's own yard. I can only imagine how traumatic that would be for the family. If it can't be helped, so be it, but shooting should not be the first resort, especially not with a golden since they are very unlikely to be dangerous.

It's easy to say that from the comfort of a couch, I know, but still. Having and using a deadly weapon requires using some good judgment.

We are hearing one side of the story. I don't know about you, but I'd like to hear both sides.

I don't know that there is any justification for what the cop has done. I would like to hear his apology and that he's being punished in some way.
Donating time to an animal shelter would be a good thing.
