Also focus on the caretakers who facilitated this. A lawsuit/investigation won't bring him back, neither will vindication. However, it may help prevent others losing their family members.

I don't mean to say this is what happened, but recently my girlfriend's grandfather decided it was time for him to go, and he snuck out of the home and laid down in the snow. He had told two other residents that day that he planned on doing it.

It sounds like the facility should have been more careful. Older people tend to go roaming, and there are steps to make sure that they don't. I think that this should be looked into, for the safety of the others at the facility.

that is terribly sad. I wouldn't know how to feel. I would probably feel anguished and outraged.

it's little consolation, but supposedly dying of cold is one of the more pleasant ways to go. you are supposed to slip into a pleasant sleep. so at least he didn't experience any pain. some people kill themselves by simply going out in the cold. is it possible he committed suicide (also common among older people) or is it pretty certain he became disoriented?

Unfortunately, such places are always trying to turn a larger profit by cutting as many costs as possible, including adequate staffing. I hope you cut into their bottom line so it doesn't have to be repeated for another family.

Sorry to hear this and yes it seems these "nursing home" employees can be lets justv say less than enthused to do a proper job,I know I have worked at more than a few over the years and the reason I will not work at them any longer due to the shher disrespect and neglect of the reisdents....
