I like it... just needs mouse gestures and something like foxmarks. I also like having the bookmarks on my toolbar with just the page icons... if Safari only had all the customization that FF did...

Just installed it.... first impressions are very good. Seems quite quick - noticeably so. Will it take Firefox's spot on the dock?!?? To be continued...

Wow, I can't believe nobody has said that yet. I also can't believe I said that...

It does look nice and certainly loads pages fast. I don't know if I can give up Firefox though. We will see...

I keep Firefox on my computer "just in case", but I never have to use it. Safari works great for what I do on the internet.

It only causes Mail to crash IF you have GrowlMail installed as well. You can get around it by just having GrowlMail display a summary of incoming messages, instead of each individual one. Looks like the problem stems from a change in WebKit that the Growl devs are working on fixing for 1.1.5 of Growl.

All other Growl functions work. It's just GrowlMail that's affected.

Hmm.. interesting.. So you have Growl and the GrowlMail plugin installed together? If so, you are very lucky.

Adblock can be granted with Safari-Adblock, which works great in OS X.

Firebug is similar to dev tools for safari, only in my opinion much better. Adblock for safari is ok. I've tried it in the past, but for some reason it causes weird issues for me. For example, while using adblock in safari I keep getting logged out of facebook. This does not happen to me in firefox. Stumbleupon however simply has no support other than firefox that I"m aware of. But 95% of my browsing is just stumbling.

Safari 4 is unstable in Windows XP, at least on my machine. Locks hard.

I like it, minus a few things:

1. Pages load fast, but the program itself feel like it's running slowly...bloated?

2. X to close tabs is on left side...what?

3. Crashes very often on Win 7 32-bit beta.

It's a beta though...it's to be expected.

Window controls in OS X are also left-side and Safari 3 had left-side close buttons on its tabs as well. This isn't a change.

Hrm, well to each their own. I am just blown away by how fast Safari 4 is on both my laptop and hackintosh. This is the first browser that actually feels like it takes advantage of my 6Mb/s connection. A lot of pages load in almost no time at all, leaving just things like youtube videos left to load.

I'm home now and just checked - I have Growl 1.1.4 installed but not a separate plugin called GrowlMail. Sorry for the confusion, I guess this explains why my system is fine.

It is in the address bar, all the way to the right, at least it will be if you didn't run those 2 terminal commands that I listed.

If you did run those commands, then the refresh/stop button shows back up in the 'customize toolbar' menu.

OMG safari 4 is AMAZING! i really cant believe its this fast! seriously, if this is any indication of snow leopard (i hear each app is DRAMATICALLY reduced in footprint, and everything is sped up basically), then you can bet ill have my copy day one.

as for safari 4 tweaks, i reverted back to the tabs on the bottom, put back the blue loading bar and the page loading spinner on each tab, disabled the dimming in top sites, and turned off coverflow in my bookmarks!

Crossing my fingers that the ION platform is Hackintoshable so that I can give my Cubie a boost...I've done everything to it but the $595 dual CPU upgrade...just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on that lol. Hopefully the ION will work and breathe new life into it :thumbsup:

been on Safari a lot since yesterday, it's very fast. All I have to do is get use to the tabs being at the very top and I think I'm sticking with it. I actually dig the Top Sites, looks nice and is pretty useful to boot.

Apple should update with a toggle for where you want the browser tabs, being clear + at the top (windows 7) makes them very hard to see.

*EDIT* It's not very nice when it comes to memory usage, 3 tabs open, no videos or flash and it's taking up over 500 megs! I know I have 2 gigs, damn I thought FF used a lot of memory. I'm assuming 500 megs is normal? If not it sure doesn't like my PC lol.

Not sure I follow. How does Hackintoshing give your Cube a boost?

But yeah, the Cube feels much snappier with 4.0. (The MacBook was already snappy with 3.2.) Flash is still dog slow on the Cube though.
