You would think a linux port would be easy. But I guess they already have their toolkit and widgits for windows, so it makes sense. I'm downloading it now to try it. If this works I might be able to ditch that old mac in my office for compatibility testing.

Dumb. I don't even know Mac users that use Safari.

lol, I told my gf, a long time Mac user, about the release and she had this to say:
i hate safari

firefox with addons/extensions > safari, ie, opera IMO.

cant live without my addons, seriously.

honestly, safari is a waste of time on a windows pc (unless you want to have cross compatibility or some web page stuff which i dont do/use). there are many many good free browsers, and even ie7 is decent.

All the text looks like anti-aliased or something. I do like the nice simple interface but unfortunately this love affair must end as I can't leave firefox, not after all its faithful years of service.

I installed it on one of the werk PCs.

Won't be touching my systems though

Firefox has been too good to me.

Just installed this 42 minutes ago.

The browser itself seems fine - in it's 'stock' condition. Pages render just fine. The font-smoothing (I set it to low) looks fine on my CRT. I don't see the 42% faster bit though. I am on a measly 256kbps connection so I imagine I would be more sensitive to any speed gains. I miss Mouse Gestures the most followed by AdBlock, custom Greasemonkey scripts, NoScript etc.

I just tried visiting an infamous wares/serials/crack website that is known to try to automatically install all kinds of spyware/viruses on your computer. It didn't allow them to install (but no warnings - I was just watching Task Manager) but for some reason, the browser has been stuck at 99% CPU usage ever since.

I looked around for some plugins on PimpMySafari.com (first Google result) and all of them seem to be OS X-only.

And yes, iTunes has started crashing since installing this. As seen here on my PC

Then again, I haven't updated iTunes 7.1 to 7.2 so maybe that might fix it. (I don't use the program but I keep it installed because my sis uses it)

One last thing: I just checked out some embedded Youtube-video heavy pages (think most celebrity blogs, Myspace profiles etc.) and scrolling through the page was smooth and slick. Some users say it's pretty jerky but I'm not seeing it.

Opera users, is checking out safari worth my time and energy? Does this thing have mouse gestures (can't do without them!).

I am a long time Opera user, currently on 9.20, and it is by far, my favourite browser.

Don't bother with it. No mouse gestures.
It's not any faster than Opera that I've seen so far.

And there's this option for "Check Spelling While Typing" that doesn't do anything
when you try to select it. Pass for now.

pretty weak, only mouse gestures i found were probably for the mac version, and now its not even freeware widget anymore, its pay! dude seriously weak.

i'm just too used to the convenience of all firefox's extentions.

to really compete for me its gotta have the functionality of adblock+all in one gestures+colorful tabs+downthemall+flashblock+pdfdownlaod+tabsmixplus+videodownloader+FEBE etc

also massive gripe about no sessions control

plus i still can't figure out why it scrolls jerkily with lag.
its not smooth scroll because my pc can do that pretty well with firefox if i enable it. but i prefer the more instant zero lag quick scroll.
