The cd drvie in my system is louder than the cpu fan, so i'm not worried about added noise as long as it's under 29 dB, but I need a better performance heatsink. Like I said earlier, can you recommend something better than the falconrock that is similar in price and noise? If not, that's what I'm gonna get.
I like that heatpipe stuff, but it's expensive.
Sure; the Falconrock sinks have always been pretty good for me, but I'm using an Akasa AK824cu (copper based) cooler, and at the moment my idle temp on a 2600+ clocked to 2.10Ghz is 42.5C. However, I do have one intake fan and two exhaust fans. How many do you have on your case?
If you want something that's got serious cooling power, then a ThermalRight SP-97 might be a good idea; solid copper cooler, add a decent quality Pabst or Panaflo fan on the top and you should be set.
One more thing; if you have removed the heatsink, when you replaced it did you remove and reapply thermal compound?
It might be an idea to take it off and check the base, to see if you have an even contact patch- if there's large areas of 'sink that don't have any compound on them, then the 'sink isn't making proper contact.
Lastly, looking at your room temperature of 43-44C (C, right?), that's pretty damned warm. The room temperature here for me is around 22C, which may explain the better temperatures I'm seeing. You may want to touch the heatsink with the back of your fingers to see how hot it is- if it's hot then it's doing it's job, if it's cool or cold, then it's not making proper contact, and thus your CPU is cooking itself underneath.
Hope this helps!
