Safe to use the Logitech Z560's with only two satellites plugged in?

I only have the front two speakers plugged in so I'm using it as a 2.1 system instead of 4.1. I've been using this for a while, but just had the thought of asking if it's safe for the speakers.

These things now make a periodic thump every 10 minutes or so, and I have no idea why... =/

curious as to why not just run all four satelites (two left sat's side by side, and two right sat's side by sidE) and use M3D and just have a 2.1 system that way...

i would figure that it shouldn't be a problem, but it could be running power through nothing (since the speakers are no longer there...) and that could be bad?
Is your computer set to running 4.1 audio? that might make a difference?

I run my Z-560's with only two speakers plugged in pretty frequently (running speaker wire across the floor can be a hassle). I've yet to have any problem with them, and that loud, occasional "thump" you hear from your subwoofer probably has to do with some sort of signal coming from your computer, not your speakers themselves. Whenever there is a power outage, my speakers thump when they shut off. And if I shut down my computer before I turn the speakers off, there is a thump when the computer's power goes off. So I don't know exactly what causes your speakers to thump every ten minutes, but I do know that it's probably the some signal on the input that's causing it.

my z560's have been in a 2.1 setup for 1.5 years and it's safe. not sure why you get a thump every 10 minutes tho.
