Hah, glad you caught that. No, they didn't really explain it, but as the bad guys were coming for the last nuke (fake FEMA), best guess is that it was them. Really wish that series had stuck it out a few more seasons. I'm glad they did a season 2 (re: the fan's nut escapade), but it was rushed and just okay. It was a fun dive into living in a possible alternative reality, however. There was another show like it (Revolution), although Jericho felt way more realistic in terms of how they portrayed everything.

yes, in Cheyenne, there are several icbm sites. I would be in the southwest part of the state. plenty of water down there in fontanel and flaming gorge reservoirs, plenty of cows, sheep, antelope to eat. Horses to catch and use and abandoned homesteads to live in. If it gets very bad, there are the trona mines and old coal mines to take shelter, also coal in surface outcropings for heat and I know enough about the oil wells to use them, lots of condensate you can put right into a gas tank in a pinch. also, a good area for the zombie apocalypse. I also have the necessary training to deal with non-trivial radiation.

If you're gonna hunker down, go to North Dakota and way up north. True, that's where a lot of missile silos are, but they won't bomb those. It will be your military bases and large cities. Go to Google and type in nuclear blast calculator and seee where the fall out will be. I'm in an area where there could be fall out.

Russia will likely not use nukes, at least not large ones. They are, for all their Orthodox bluster, largely atheist and therefore (sorry, religious folks, I'm not even atheist myself but this needs saying) mostly rational. No, what terrifies me is the idea of Daesh with nukes. MAD works only on rational people who see some value in this life; but what do you do when your opponents see mutual annihilation as not only not a problem but a bonus?
