Title says it all?

Reliability, quality, tech support?

They seem to make a pretty stacked notebook, a pIII 1Ghz w/everything for under 2600??

I have an older (circa 1995)"GreenNote" laptop (486-dx4/100) that was supposedly a Sager under the covers. It still runs; I use it occasionally if I have to use MS Word for real (I run WordPerfect on my current machine and have never had any luck trying to run both products on the same machine.)

Nice machine - slow by today's standards, but very up-to-date when I got it, and it was about half the cost of the then-popular Toshibas and Compaqs that had similar setups.

I haven't tried any of their systems in recent years.

I got a laptop from them about 5 years ago. Kind of like the previous post, slow by today's standards, but a good deal at the time.

Mine did have one problem though, the backlight for the LCD display failed I think within the first 6 months. Had a difficult time getting ahold of tech support at first (at the time barely anyone spoke decent English whenever I called). However, I was able to return it to them and get it back in working order without too much of a hassle. It's been awhile, but I don't remember any other difficulties.

My laptop is still running too, though I don't use it anymore. I loaned it to someone else, and they seem to be enjoying it.

About 5 years ago I was the Sales Manager for a Mom & Pop computer outfit. Sager was our "house" brand for laptops. At the time they had a full line of models, from low-end to ones with all the bells & whistles. So as far as features went, they were competitive with Compaq, Toshiba, Texas Instruments, Acer, etc. They were priced several hundred dollars less than other brands so we sold a lot of them -- and never had any complaints or returns.

Wow, that's what I'm finding...i can't find reviews on any of their more recient models anywere. Well, found a couple on their last years models...but none on the new ones. They seem to have a pretty good warranty. I've heard from two now that the tech support is less than best...but heck for the savings of almost 1000 (high performance name brand to high performance Sager) I can figure out the problems myself....lol, apart from mfg. defects

Their 8560 series @1Ghz w/all the bells and whistles is going btwn 2000-2500 depending on the vendor.... IN my book that's pretty good seeing as how the other fellows offer up to an 850Mhz loaded machine for over 3000, and sometimes over 4000.

Anyone else heard about these guys or dealt with them...I'm seriously considering purchasing one of their 1ghz laptops. They have an excellent price, and a good warranty. Plus a 30 day trial period....if you don't like it, no questions asked and no restocking fee. Full refund plus the shipping's on them??? Sounds pretty good!

I know someone who bought one from them a few months ago and it is working perfectly. It is a K6-2 450 and it runs pretty well. The only problem is the battery life. Its Lithium Ion battery (normally comes with NIMH) only ran 1:45 NEW! That is less than my old Dell P133 laptop.

My son bought a Sager top-of-the-line laptop last year and it has been working fine.

Initially, there were some problems with the internal modem but Sager sent him a new one. I remember him grumbling about poor tech support, but they came through.

I also remember us searching for reviews on their product, but could never find one, just trusted the 30 day return policy. He got the big LCD display (15.1"?) and it looks like a regular monitor.

I'm pretty sure he'd buy one again.

The main problem you'll have with the Sager is portability. Their machines are very big and very bulky. Also Battery life for Sagers are well below par.

Just my experience.

have bought two of them in the last year,

tech support is non-existent but like has been mentioned, they are significantly less priced.

the machines perform ok--not bad and not steller.

the battery life is something that is bad. something in those machines sucks the life out faster than dell or compaqs we have.

this is only my opinion but I would not purchase another one, but again, they do offer a good price point.

GREAT!!! This was the kind of feedback i was looking for...you guys have been very helpful. I think for the difference of over $1000 in most cases for a comperable "name brand" notebook, I'll risk it. Use the 30-day guarantee to the fullest....and if it doesn't perform to task, send it back???

I've really thought hard about the Inspiron 8000 by Dell, they have excellent reviews but that's the cost of a used car....lol, i don't need one that bad

I'll wait a little more to see what i can find...they are extremely hard to find reviews for....that doesn't make me feel too much better

Thanks All!

Fermunda, please let me know how your Sager shapes up. I just took a lok at their website, and they offer quite a bit for the money. I'm interested in hearing first-hand experiences, though, specifically of the new models. I'm looking at the MP8560: 866, 64MB (more from Crucial), 20GB, DVD, Win2K, addt'l 3-yr warranty, $2500.

I was considering buying the PIII 1.0GHz,20gig,64mb VIDEO, only $1740! from a company that egays them, but no one bid on it so I chickened out. The seller has a great rating so it wasn't that, I thought that maybe it was something about the system.

Anyone know if these take the dual battery to extend your operating time? I emailed the vendor with quite a few questions. I will try and post their reply. Thnx

Here was the response. I should have checked my email before the first post.

"Hello!, thank you for your interest in our products.
The extended warranty is provided by Phillips/Magnavox thru the manufacturer.
The cost is $139.00 for 2 years (for a total of 3) and $179.00 for 3 years
(for a total of 4).
Tech support is provided by virtually both,Us as the resellers and Sager as
distributors for as long as you own your laptop.
Ram sharing works relatively simple, the video card picks up it's ram from
the main system ram, for example if you purchase your system with 256mb ram
and assign the maximum (64mb) to your video then there will be 192mb ram left
for your programs to run (which is plenty) , this system supports up to 512
mb ram.
It does not affect DVD playback in any way, as a matter of fact DVD video
playing is awesome!
What's good about Sager and most of the other brands we sell is that none of
them is propietary, you can purchase a CPU FCPGA in any computer store, uses
the same as all desktops making future upgrades a breeze, same is true for
the ram, it can be purchased anywhere ram is sold, but the truth is that the
factory sells these components for less than you can find them anywhere else
anyways.
If you're interested in purchasing this system and the auction has ended, you
may place your order direct, or wait for a new auction to begin.

Best regards!!

I got a Dell Inspiron 8000 with similar configuration (850 vs 866) a couple of weeks ago for $2200. Also had a M4 w/ 32mb video chip, 3 year onsite warranty , free shipping, and free extra battery. Got WinME, but not a problem if you already have Win2k. Works great so far. Less than a similiarly configured Sager?
