Somehow I have Saints Row IV in steam. Probably got it from some video card purchase. Anyways I tried it out a few weeks ago. Pretty fun. I liked the opening scene when disabling the nuclear missle. Pretty funny they went Armageddon with "I don't want to miss a thing".

Or Humble Bundle - the SR games have been on there quite a bit.

Also, Gamestop has the Steam version of the new DLC (Gat out of Hell) for $4.99.

http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/saints-row-gat-out-of-hell/118076

Zin I never played 1 or 2, but from what I understand 3 and 4 completely change the direction of the game for the better. Over the top, humorous, not serious at all version of GTA.

Well, it's release day and Gamestop has still not issued the Steam key. In fact, my order now says "Code release date is currently unavailable". I'm thinking these orders will be cancelled, especially since the price is now $19.99.

Order has changed again to a 1pm CST release. keeps changing by the hour

There is some confusion as to if it was a pricing error or not. Initially there was a tweet from the devs saying it would not be honored, but then that was deleted and no ones cc orders have been cancelled. Thought is Gamestop and Pubs are working on how to resolve the issue. There's a long thread on SD about it.

Interesting. I had no issues with purchasing the other day, around the same time you reported issues.

I used Paypal (stupidly), and received Gamestop confirmation of the order, with order #, almost instantly. It did mention that the license number would be emailed when available, and that Paypal will issue payment when Gamestop charges the order. I have not yet checked if there is an email with license key.

Looks like some posters on NeoGaf and CheapAssGamer are starting to receive their codes. It was definitely a pricing mistake, but it looks like Gamestop and Deep Silver worked it out.

Code just received! Woohoo, they honored it

awesome.

I'm on the last mission of SR 2, so hopefully starting #3 later tonight. I imagine that 3 and 4 are a bit longer than the 3nd one? Or not, no reason for me to assume either way, honestly.

Just got my code, came to update. Glad to see it's working out.

Also, you should receive a 2nd code for the Devils Workshop DLC.

Thanks! Didn't even realize it came with DLC.

I will say that this new one is just a reskin of SRIV, but I'm good with that because I liked SRIV. Only hickup I've seen so far is some cutting of sound during cut-scenes, and sometimes hits on enemies don't register any animation change.

got the code in email, but steam wont' activate it--says requires additional game to activate it.

I've installed and started up SR IV, to make sure it is "active" but it still won't work. Gamestop offers no other instructions on getting this to install than the normal key activation on steam.

Curiously, my order confirmation today said that my game key is available--log on here and stuff to install--but also said that gamestop will never send game keys in an email. seconds later, I get a 2nd email with the steam key in giant bold letters. :hmm:

ohhh...that 2nd key is for the devil's workshop. figured it out..found the link for guest/in-store orders and was able to retrieve with simple email and order number entry.

Why don't more games let me call up Burt Reynolds to help me shoot up some gang-bangers? And SURE ENOUGH!

5 minutes into SR3, I don't even know why I bothered with the 2nd one.

To get enjoyment out of SR2, as I did. You certainly can't play SR2 AFTER playing SR3. I suspect (I'm still playing SR3) that the same holds true with SR4.

I thought that might happen, so I figured that I would stick with the 2nd one and try to plow through it avoiding as much content as I could. I thought you should be able to skip the strongholds--territory capture that weren't actual game missions--but that wasn't possible.

I don't like that you have to capture every single piece of territory to unlock all the missions, but I guess that is the primary goal in the story. ...I actually just watched the final two missions on Youtube because I was tired of playing it.

problem I am having with SR3 is that with all of the DLC available the first time I play it, I feel that I am way too overpowered, wealthy, with great property and vehicles, weapons that are insane, unlocked abilities. ...however, these gang activity missions can still be quite difficult because they will spawn backup very quickly, and things get hairy.

I'm also trying to avoid the DLC missions, as I started one of them and it makes no sense--figured it was DLC.

With the DLC, I agree completely. I chose to not use the DLC vehicles or weapons until I had "legally" captured a similar one "in the wild". Plus, I'm rocking the Hardcore difficulty level.

Further, I've chosen to not buy the "No Damage from x" upgrades. Seems way too overpowered. I struggled on whether or not to buy the unlimited ammo and no reload upgrades, but ultimately did so. After all, the ammo is cheap at Friendly Fire, and the no reload ability doesn't make you that much more powerful.

EDIT: I'm probably about four missions from the end, and I've done all the activities. Bought a copy for my boys while it was on sale so we can do the co-op stuff later.

Skipping Side Missions/Activities kind of misses the whole point of all the games, IMO. These are Worlds to spend time in and do whatever you want within certain rules of that World, not really World's with a Story.

You can only skip so much, though. You have to complete them to gain enough respect to do missions, and you have to do the stronghold/secondary missions to unlock the main missions.

I enjoy these things for some time, but after a while it all becomes redundant. I'd rather have the option to focus on the ones that I like, or maybe just skip them all if the gameplay becomes trite rather quickly.

Sure, driving around a septic truck and spraying shit on everyone is rather enjoyable at first, but repeating it 24 times (I think there were 3 missions with 6 levels each in SR2) is mind-numbing. Good thing is you don't have to do this one so many times. I tried each type at least once, and some I did more than others.

After so many hours, you get what's going on and it eventually becomes a reputation grind.

I never notice, though... I'm a completionist. The only activity in SR2 that I wasn't able to complete was one of the tow truck activities.

Beat Saints Row 4. The end game mission with the Key was a pain in the butt.
Downloaded Saints Row The Third and was annoyed to find its basically the exact same thing minus super powers.
Did a little digging on the internet. Apparently the idea of a Matrix style Steelport was originally a big DLC expansion to saints row 3 but it got so huge they decided to make a totally separate game, along with the alien-takeover plot.

My biggest complaint with both games is that too many abilities unlock at the same level. Like the unlimited ammo. All gun types become available at level 50. Would have made much more sense to stagger that stuff from level 46 thru 50.

Also Saints Row the Third seems a lot more sluggish cuz I cant sprint or fly or blast enemies with super powers. Definitely played these out of order. Both games seem kinda small cuz there really isnt much to do on each block. Everything feels sorta generic after a while.

When doing gang activity you only have to kill the guys with red circles over them. Focus on those bastards then haul buns.
Also, dont be afraid to call in backup, you'll need it.

And with some of the delivery/escort missions, make sure you summon a good vehicle first, THEN start the mission so you have the hardware you really need. The default car for escorting that big fruity pimp is usually not good enough. Its the same car as you use for picking up ho's and dropping them off. Call in a Bulldog and maybe one helper, then do the mission.

Also, the national guard Bulldog should be put in your garage, it has a nice machine gun. when pimped out with reinforced bumpers and tires that thing can survive a lot of heavy combat.

Yeah, you played this in the wrong order. Saints Row 4 really did exactly what should have been done in SR4. I mean, the story was cheesy, but the entire game was like that on purpose. It wasn't trying to be some super serious crime simulator like GTA.
