these saitek keyboards dont seem to have much multimedia function, no volume knob or adjustment function of some sort, which kills this for me

I love these keyboards. I have two of these and one of the earlier models with the satellite keypad. They are very comfortable to type on.

A word of caution however: keep your receipt. They are not the sturdiest of KBs. I've had to send two back to Saitek for replacement within a year. Granted, I type a hell of a lot more than most people, so this probably won't be a problem for most people. Saitek was very good about the returns, too. I just told them what was happening and they gave me an RMA. I sent it in and got a new KB in two weeks.

Just a FYI, I heard back from Saitek support. They said that extra keys are availible if needed. So if you wear them out, no need for a new keyboard, just new keys.

I've had mine for over a year now and I love it. What makes it so good is that my computer is in my bedroom office. Well, the wife does go to sleep earlier than I so, so the backlite is great for those times when I have to have the lights off.

Just my .02

I was going to get one last black friday at compusa, but I pulled it out of the box and I couldn't stand the keys. They're too soft to push and they don't go down far enough. Almost felt like a cheap laptop keyboard...but bigger. And it could have just been late (4am) but the spacing seemed weird too. But w/e if you like it, good for you, I'd recommend trying before you buy though.

Great, I'll take them up on that.

It would be like this: Hello Saitek, please mail me new keys for the following:
W, A, S, D, X, C, V, T, J, K, L, M, Left Control, Left Alt, Left Shift, Enter. These new keys would make my keyboard look less post apocalyptic.

I used one of these for a couple weeks and had a few complaints. Because of it being USB, for some reason I could access my system BIOS at boot up but not my SCSI BIOS. Also wouldn't read keys pressed to boot from DVD or F8. Keys were too slick and too soft for my taste as well, and the space bar felt floppy. Also, the illumination looked slick and all, but if you're a hunt and peck typer, this isn't going to let you read the keyboard in the dark. The light doesn't show through the keys, just around them. It's sort of like trying to get a good look at the grill of an oncoming car while the headlights are on.
