Salem witch trial information

Having been dragged there by my witchy wife a couple weeks ago I remembered that it was only about 19 men and women who were killed in the Witch trials. Here is a link with some info on it...

oh...well i don't believe in witches... but i do believe in ghosts!!! they really scare me..

It wasn't actualy witches being killed in the Salem Witch Trials. It was mostly innocent people being accused of something they didn't do.

I'd be more afraid of proving you're not a witch, much more difficult than facing a "ghost" I think

wouldn't know...never had to prove that i was or wasn't a witch, and never had to face a ghost....

It happened all right, and people need to learn about history, so the same mistakes are not repeated again. I had to do a report on this in college, and it was a fascinating although totally revolting time in history. One man was put to death, Giles Corey, and they killed him by crushing him slowly with huge slabs of rock. The rest were hung. They believe that the whole thing may have been caused by mold in the people's food. That may have led to them going mad, and accusing others of doing things they saw in their hallucinations.

Hmmmm, I have never heard of the "mold theory", but it sure sounds interesting.

I learned alot about that stuff in high school. It was semi-interesting. One can clearly see that stupidity is not a modern invention.

The test is quite simple. We first bind your hands and feet and throw you into deep water. If you float, you're a witch! If you sink to the bottom, then you aren't!

Actually, if you floated you were a witch and if you didn't you were &quot;pure&quot;, but dead.

You forgot to mention that one dog was put to death for witchcraft as well.

You mentioned Giles Corey... they were putting the slabs of stone on one at a time... each time asking him if he would confess his sins as a witch... and each time he replied &quot;More weight...&quot;

I use that phrase with folks in jest when I feel like im getting to much work and people want to give me more... =)
