I have a Samba file server. There are three shares, but for the purpose of this post, I'll discuss just one. This share is called [share] and it's smb.conf configuration is below:
The folder /home/share/misc has the following user/group/permissions settings:
In other words, it was chmodded with the following permissions: 1775, and chowned to root.users. All users that have access to the fileserver are members of the group users.
The reason for this is that I want to allow all users to be able to access this share, use files in this share, create files in this share, but not delete files created by other users. This works beautifully in the root share.
What does not work is this... I want users to be able to create subfolders in this share that have the 1775 permissions, so that the subfolders behave in the same way as /home/share/misc. Even though I have specified the directory mask in the smb.conf file to be 1775, the resulting permissions on any folder created are 0775.
Users can of course access files in these subfolders currently, but since the owner and group are both the user, other users don't have write access on the subfolders. So I was wondering if there is some way in the smb.conf file to be able to have users create subfolders that have the sticky bit applied. The directory mask in smb.conf doesn't seem to be able to do it.
