Same old volume issues...

I have a case that's running a T-bird 1.33 non-OC'd with a 32 dBa fan that keeps it running cool enough, but is it just me, or is 32 dBa loud? :\ I can easily hear my fan across a pretty large room, and it's beginning to bother me.

I know keeping the volume down is a problem for a lot of people, so I ask only this quick question...

Would something like Akasa Pax Mate be the right answer? or am I missing something?...

Many people I know with similar cpus have significantly quieter machines, making me wonder what it is I'm doing wrong........ Ah well.

Thanks,

whoa. Get a better heatsink and then get a slower fan

My 1.1 Athlon runs at low 40's Celsius idle, with an SK6 and a 26 CFM 24 dcb 60mm Sunon fan.

db is a term of loudness. However the pitch is what is objectionable. Little 60mm fans turn a higher RPM and pitch are compaired to jet engines. I have a 92mm fan rated @ 35 db (same db as yours) which emits a low rumble which is not at all objectionable. Note I quoted figures that manufacturer stated. They may be in reality slightly different.

The point is that some pitchs are very objectionable while others are barely auditable while having the same noise factor (db). If possible, get a larger fan and you will be pleased with lower noise and better cooling.

Yes, this is very true from my experience. Also worth noting is the sound you can get from vibrations/rattles/buzzing in the case from slightly loose or poorly fitted fans and other things. My old skool Dell case is really bad with this; although it has only a 120mm case fan and a 80mm PSU fan (both pretty quiet), I find it more annoying than my friends' cases with like 4 panaflo L1a's in just the case alone. The difference is vibration: the Dell case has a plastic housing that holds the rear 120mm fan and adds an
extremely annoying rattle sound to the overall noise of the case. Since you didn't mention your case, I don't know if this is an issue for you, but you can find out by removing various case fans from their housings and see what happens to your case noise. Worth a try, and then perhaps a new case.

I in fact bought a new case because my previous case's side panel vibrated horribly. I know have a case with a side fan intake and a rear exhaust fan. They don't vibrate much anymore (they make a nice solid connection and all) but are a bit loud, and have planned to replace them with panaflos. Therefore, I attempted to test the theoretical sound levels by unplugging both case fans. The resulting sound from just the HSF was loud enough still
Perhaps I'll invest in an AX-7 with some panaflo model..?

Thanks for the advice all

In response to elw00blues's question. There are no vibrations in my case. The reason is that I have a large, heavy, well built Inwin Q500 case.
All my fans have rheostats including HS. I am able to isolate each fan and "tune" in each fan to max RPM with noise level reasonable. The large 92mm fan on HS turns 2500 and is running at top speed and noise is a "low rumble." Several of the 80mm fans are not running at max speed due to excessive noise. The "loudest" fan is the 92mm. My XP2000+ @ 2100 speeds idles @40C and 44C at load. (Flight Simulator)

Hm..I believe I can outfit my puter with 2 case 80mm panaflos and an AX-7 with a panaflo for my cpu for....
$45..... I suppose I'm willing to pay the price, but I just want to make sure people think this WILL reduce the loudness in my case before wasting a nice sum like that

Are we go for launch?
