I grew up getting Costco bulk since I was a kid. For $1.50, a big ol polish sausage and a 20oz drink is not a bad idea. I've been to Sam's on several occasions, the pricing is similar, the feel is similar, but I agree with what was mentioned earlier in that there seems to be a tad more variety with Costco. I personally think Sam's is better organized, therefore easier to find things, but Costco has such an array of items with decent pricing that its almost worth it to look and search for (or call ahead of time).

In San Diego, alot of Costco merchandise is liquidated through GTM Discount Stores. The selection of merchandise tends to be very hit-and-miss though.

Anyone check out the passport coupon book lately? Laptop coming up in August. Not sure if it was a misprint but it claims to have 1Gh memory, 2 Ghz processor, 80 Gb Hard drive, Win XP, wireless, 15.4" screen. Wish I new what video card will be included. Price is around $ 1100.00. Don't have the flyer in front of me, so my memory may be off a little.

It's a kick ass HP (I think the DV1000?) 1.7 Centrino, 1GB, 80GB, DVD Burner DL, WXGA, 802.11b/g

$999 out the door no rebate!

Starts August 1.

I disagree. Try Kirkland paper towels, or worse, the toilet paper. Only thing Kirkland I buy are things like juice and vitamins.

I have a membership at both. I have no preference, but Sam's has a much better selection.....though I go for bulk items (paper towels, juice, diapers, frozen chicken, etc) only so that doesn't mean as much to me. I get my Costco membership free, but paid for a Sam's memberhsip because they have more "hot deals" on random things occassionally.

I have both Costco Exec. membership and Sams.
I like costco for their return policy as well as their foods. I also like their services such as biz check printing and Exex. Membership cash back.

As for Sams, I prefer to buy their meats and frozen foods at Sams rather then Costco. As for pros and cons, it all depends on what you are planning to buy.

As a side Job I do a weekly competitive shop of Sam's for Costco. Costco has a better selection of items and the prices vary by pennies in most cases (Sam's is usually a penny cheaper). Produce and Meat tend to be better quality at Costco. The biggest upside to Costco in my opinion is the lifetime return policy on any item except for computers (6months). Just got a 19" LCD and it had one dead pixel, returned it without question. Had a hoover vacuum that didn't get the job done, took it back after 5 months no questions asked. Costco service is A+. I would definately buy the big things at Costco...TVs....LCDs...Vacuums...etc. We usually buy our staples (eggs, milk, bread) at Sams just b/c we are there more often.

I prefer Cosco's strollers, high-chairs, and car seats over Sam's, but Sam's definitely wins in the wholesale dept.

Yup thats the place, when it first opened, the deals were freaking amazing, then I was there one day and a LOT more people were around. Some TV show put them in the bargains section and people were driving like 50 miles to shop there. Prices doubled almost instantly. This happened about 3 times with prices going up each time. Now its a mixed bag, some days I find a great deal, some nothing I want, and of course many items were returned for good reason, missing parts, stuff that doesn't work right or at all. No returns on items wih more than I think a 40% discount, 7 day exchange for store credit, and getting warranty service off the "no product info" cash register reciepts typically doesn't work.

Sorry took too long to post, but I am refering to California Outlets in Fullerton. I don't really send people there anymore due to the mixed results.

Around here we have Costco, BJs and Sam's, but they're progressively further away and I think Sam's is too far away, so I don't have a membership.
SOOO I'll extend this and compare BJs and Costco. I think BJs has better meat and a wider variety. Plus they have a deli with great prices. That said, there is a better selection of hardline goods @ Costco, and their gas ranges from a few pennies to .15 cheaper most times. I drive to BJs for meat about once a month. I stop at Costco weekly for gas. Until I buy a house, I've told myself I'm not buying anything else, so I try not to go into either store for anything that I might have to pack up in six months!
