My 500GB HDD has less than 10% free space. This is so tempting.

They are very fast drives. I have 2 network storage Enterprise class drives by Seagate, ST3500630NS, in RAID 1 (mirror) and I also have 6 of these 1TB F3 drives doing RAID 1 in 2-pair, and the Seagate drives take a while to sync compared to the F3 drives. The difference on a faster scale would be like a HDD vs an SSD

My problem is if I replace the Seagate drives, I need to pickup 2 more of the F3 1TB drives. Which actually drives me to think they must make a 1.5TB drive with these high density platters.. anyone know which they are?

EDIT: i think they put them in a 2TB config 2TB

Wish I hadn't spent $500 on my buddy's bachelor party last week...

Can someone tell me why these particular drives are so highly regarded? I'm interested but what's the difference in this and another 1tb?

Also available from Ewiz for $68 with free shipping. Use code magic15 to take 15% off. The code should work for other items at Ewiz as well, with a cap at $15 off. Bing cash back of 3% as well.

It's kind of annoying that these are the same price as some 2TB drives when the 2's go on sale. Although for my money I'd grab one of these over a 2TB simply because of reliability. It's just crappy that you could get double the storage for the same price, but 2TB drives seem to be far less reliable and may cost you more in the long run after RMA's etc..

Not thread crapping, these are great drives and the price is good. I have 3 of the 5400RPM versions and 2 of the drives in this deal and they were all well worth the money, even at higher price than this deal.

For me, Samsung has also proven themselves as the most reliable of the HD manufacturers when considering large storage drives.

I'd like to know where you've seen 2TB drives on sale for $69 too...even if it's a lower end 5400rpm model.

My bad, I thought I saw one here but it's a 1.5TB. Eyes must've crossed or something. I really need to quit posting on zero sleep.

Regardless.. a 1.5 is still 150% of the storage for the same price, and 2TB drives are popping up a lot at $99 lately. So $30 more for double the storage is still ridiculous.

Anyways, these drives are still great and I'd pick one up in a heartbeat if I had the cash right now. If only Samsung would drop their 2TB drives to at least $99. I'd pick one up just to check it out and see if it was worth investing in a few more.

My case has 4 drive bays (mid-tower) and I'm running out of space on the 1TB's filling it up

I can understand your apprehension, but since I intend to use the F3 as a boot drive for my LAN rig, I can't justify paying for a lower performing drive, even at 2TB. In your situation, it would make sense to go in for a 2 TB. I've definitely seen 1.5TB WD Green drives for like, $100 or $110...but I can't stand the 5400 RPM drives, even if they're only storage.

In for 1. Thanks OP.
Got this over the 2 TB for $99 because of the 7200 RPM. Suitable for a boot drive if desired.
Plus, no rebate to deal with! ++

Don't get me wrong, I'd still pull the trigger on one if I had the cash. But I definitely understand the alternate view. Personally I don't mind the 5400RPM's for storage. My main rig has a 640 Black for the OS and 3 Samsung EcoGreen 1TB's for storage. I've found that the only area where the 5400RPM's show signs of being slower is during extremely large file transfers/copies. Although I'm beginning to think that has more to do with Win7 than the drive itself.

If I keep the transfers to around 3-4GB at a time, the 5400RPM's stay at high transfer rates, similar to the 7200RPM Seagates and almost identical to the 7200RPM Samsungs I have.

It's all a matter of preference I suppose. Personally I'd take a $99 5400RPM over a $70 1TB 7200RPM because I'm space confined. I've had a bad year with hard drives though, so if it's not a proven reliable drive I'll steer clear for now. Unfortunately I've seen way too many drives 1.5 and 2TB in size fail, across all the manufacturers, both current and early production
