Sheesh! It's gotten even cheaper!! Samsung's 950p monitor is only $290 now at Onvia

I have it's younger brother, the 900p, and it is VERY VERY good. the text at 1600x1200 is very clear and i run it with my V3 2000. I know this monitor has been up on the boards before, but never at such a low price! I wonder if you can pricematch it anywhere.

Hope this helps those of you looking for a new monitor!

oops, and as the title mentioned, it's a 19 incher!

Could anyone comment if this monitor deserves the #1 ranking PCWORLD gives it?

Also would it be worth it to spend the extra bucks on the 955DF????

Finally, reviews for this are sorta mixed. Any comments as to how this compares to other $300 19" monitors, such as the $300 Viewsonic offered at bestbuys this week????

Wow! At $290 shipped it doesn't matter if it deserves the #1 rating or not. Granted, Samsung did get great and so so reviews, both from users and magazines. But at this price how can you go wrong? Definately better than anything in this price range, including the Viewsonics. Personally I would take the extra money saved from going with this instead of the DF and get a better video card. Imagine getting 2 of these babies and a Matrox G400, sweet! A GeForce MX dual would go good with these two, having a tough time tracking one down though.

i bought the 900 summer of last yr, and havent had a prob with it. it isnt flat like a LCD or the mitsu 19", but it doesnt curve too much, at least not like my bro's 21" nokia. i watch mpegs on it all the time at full screen and sitting far enough to avoid all the artefacts ... just like a 19" tv

now, i'm looking for a 21" to do a 2 monitor thing

Yuck. The SL models aren't that great because they use a shorter tube. Saves space but gives off some serious geometric distortion.

I suppose it would be possible to do a Staples pricematch w/the $40 off coupon, but taxes would most likely negate the coupon savings.

Another thing with the SL version is that it can't do 1600x1200 at 75hz, I believe. I run it at that freq and damn, it's nice. The screen is pretty flat for such a large monitor. It's not perfectly flat, but quite close. I forget which site recommended it, but it did earn top marks at a website I encountered when I was researching 19" monitors. I would NOT hesitate to buy a second one. In fact, I recommend this one to my friends when they ask for a 19" monitor. The monitor is long, however, but it fits on my desk just fine

Do not wait!!!!

This is a wonderful moniter!

I bought one from buy.com 9/30, using 30 off 150, with the tax, cost me 308$.

I am very satisfied with it! sharp and clear text! 1600*1200 at 76hz.

I'll throw in my vote for the 950p. I'm had one for about 3 months now and so far have nothing to complain about.

Thanks for the info...

I tried to PM with Staples... guess what happened...
They said no go... because... of all the reason, the monitors are "different"
"What?? they're the same 950p from Samsung," I said. Their response... our site says 1600x1200 at 85Hz and Onvia says 1920x1440 at 65Hz... they're different.

I can't believe this... i tried to convince them that those are different settings on a same monitor, but even their "supervisor" wouldn't budge...

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS... oh well... i don't have time and energy to try again.

Yuniverse-

Yeah, there are actually two different models of 950p. One is called the 950p Plus which has the higher resolution; the other is simply 950p. It looks like they've discontinued the old 950p already and removed it from the samsungmonitors website. If you look at all the reviews over the past few months of 950p, you'll see they all state the 1600x1200@85 resolution. Only recently has this newer high resolution 950p model appeared.

Samsung pulled this same thing in the past. By upping the specs on the 900p w/o designating a faceplate name change. The newer 900p had a better anti-glare coating. I know b/c it confused the hell out of me when I was comparing specs from venders to Samsung's own website which showed only the newer model.

I've had the 900p for a year or so now (got it from Onsale for $320 after the $70 rebate HOT DEAL). It has been a fine monitor, crisp text and good refresh rates. The only drawback is that the color saturation isn't quite as nice as the Viewsonic's I've seen. But at these prices, it's going to be hard to pay the extra for a little deeper blue.

P.S. I also had to RMA a 17" Samsung - the service was excellent. They shipped to a Mail boxes etc. where I exchanged for no cost and the replacement monitor has been working just fine.

I have both 950P and 955DF..
I bought my 955DF while the rebate was still alive and costed me $280 with shipping and 950P costed me $320 with shipping.

Both are very good monitors. 955DF (the dynaflat one) is a little more sensitive to electric field and noise in the building or the power lines... So if you have bad wiring or live around big transformers or something go with 950P.

Also 955DF is about 20lb heavier than 950P... If I had to choose one I would choose 950P over 955DF cuz it's got more connectivity options and very slightly better geometry handling.

I was just curious about the warranty on the Samsung 950p monitor, how long is it, and what does it cover? Also, on the Onvia page, it shows a Service Plan option. Is it worth it to get those? Thanks!

just got this monitor, its image quality is fantastic. definately top-notch for its price/perf. ratio.

I agree, tho, color saturation isnt quite as hot, but very very good nevertheless.

Anyone know of a gaming gfx card that will use the DSub connectors?

does onvia except passport, if so what a hot deal! If not, make them price match, then use it to get a really low price..
