Outpost.com

Shipping is about $20 I believe. Pretty hot deal IMO. I'd much rather have a Samsung than an Apex or Daewoo (although I think AKAI is Samsung without the name isn't it?). Anyways, seemed like a decent deal. Ripped from hot-deals.org

Wanna know why these TV's are so cheap? HDTV is out. Also, the current HDTV stand is not finalized and will be changing soon.

I was going to order it from Outpost.com ($36 for ground shipping to CA, plus tax), but call Fry's instead and they also had it for $199.

Fry's didn't have it on display, but they did have it in-stock. This is the best 20" Flat TV out there. This is the only 20" TV that I know has the 16:9 squeeze trick and 800 lines of horizontal resolution.

For more detail about this TV, check out the brochure

The PDF link is for the more recent TXM model.
The Amazon link is for the older TXL model.
Don't know what differences they have.
The Outpost site doesn't specify a model number.

This is the first I have heard of this one.
I see many posts about the sucky APEX, RCA, and similar dogs that do not have a comb filter. If it has no comb filter, you may as well by Daewoo or some Kmart house brand and save some cash.

I was about to order the Toshiba for $259 at BestBuy. Thing is with this, how reliable is it?
I had just seen a new dvd/vcr combo deck from Samsung that even played SVHS recorded tapes back, and did MP3's, but upon reading the reviews, it turns out they have major pixelation problems and dvd freezing during play. Got to make you wonder what will happen in a couple of months with this set.

At the same time, their monitors (computer) have been pretty good. And I noticed Toshiba seems to be on downward spiral, with their vcrs at least. I am wondering if they are cramming even more plastic into this years version of the 20" monitor, like they have (and others too) with those vcrs. Seems only Panasonic continues to make reliable vcrs, but unfortunately they are not Quasi-SVHS capable like many others are.

This Samsung bears some watching. Seems to have it all except dual RF jacks, which only 27" and up sets seem to have anymore.

Anyone actually have this set and for some time?

I bought one of these at Fry's about 4 months ago when they were $279, don't get me wrong it is a great TV feature/picture wise but quality control still seems to be lacking at Samsung. The first one had geometry problems out of the box so I returned it for another one that also has geometry problems though not quite as bad but now the speakers seem to be going on this one since I start to get sound distortion at medium volume levels. The $40 extended warranty will probably come in handy!

Geometry problems are VERY common for flat screen TV's, just make sure you test it out before your return period is up, I would not by this TV or ANY TV through the mail....

I think the TXM and TXL are the same model (same specs and design). The manual are the same for both model.

So far this TV work flawless, no problem at all. Great improvement from a five year old RCA 19" with no A/V port.

This TV have as many A/V ports as most 27" TV.

What do you mean by Geometry problems?

Look for horizontal lines that slope off in one corner and/or lines that don't appear straight. It's most noticeable when you watch a letterbox movie or use DVD Essentials to show a test grid pattern on your screen. The Samsung does have a tilt control and a few other geometry correction options hidden in the service menu but they don't seem to be able to fix the problems on the two TV's I've had.

You are right, I just measure it and it's only 1/8 of an inch off. So, I don't think I'll bother with it. It is only noticeable if I'm a feet away. Since I usually watch movies on it about 5 feet away, and an 1/8 of an inch isn't a problem for me.

This is very tempting....

Just got a the $99 Sharp Stereo at Sears and now I'm wanting to upgrade my TV to complete my poor college student home theater system.

Sounds like these TVs have a lot of problems though....

To get into the service menu turn the tv off, hit mute, 1, 8, 2 and then power again. Be really careful while you're in there - any changes to the G2 menu can seriously screw up your tv.

9879546549846565498798465, thanks

Do you know of any website that give instruction on it? I don't want to mess with it. All I need is to just tilt it a little.

WOW - I didn't realize the resolution was that high! That's incredible.

I picked one of these up from my local Fry's for $199 ($216 after tax). Did not have to price match or anything, as it was already marked at this price. Awesome deal and awesome TV. Was contemplating whether or not to spend the extra $60 to get the Toshiba? (I think it was toshiba) because it looked visibly better, as was the $80 more expensive Sony Wega, but figured it's good enough.

Don't know about that digital correction. It makes the picture look fuzzy and definitely distorts the image. Some people may like it tho. I prefer seeing the exact signal the tv is being fed which is pretty awesome.

Sam's club has a 20" flat Daewoo. I'm wondering if anyone can compare the two as the Daewoo looks pretty nice and has a silver casing.

I have the Daewoo from Sam's and it's killer, but for $20 you can get the Samsung (which I personally haven't seen). I have been real pleased with Samsung products, and if I already didn't have this Daewoo, I'd pick up that Samsung in a second without another thought about it. The Daewoo looks really nice picture wise though. As good, if not better than my 32" Wega :disgust:

Walmart has this tv for $199, too. I couldn't find it in the store, though. The Daewoo has only composite inputs. I ended up with a Panasonic Tau for $231. It will supposedly also do 16:9 but I haven't tried it yet (Lack of info).

That looks different and has a different model # then the one at Outpost. What's the differences between the 2?

I'd really like a nice TV!

Edit: The one at Wal-mart is the TXM2090F, which has the speakers on the bottom of the TV. Here's the specs on that tv:

DynaFlat¢â Anti-Distortion/Anti-Glare CRT
Monitor Style Design with Bottom Speakers
Slim Width Design Allows More Placement Options
DVD Component Input (Y/Pb/Pr)
Stereo Sound (4W)
3-Line Digital Comb Filter Technology
1 Front & 1 Rear A/V Inputs
Full Function Remote
Color: Charcoal Gray

The one at Outpost is the TXM2091F, whic has the speakers on the side of the TV. Here's the specs:

DynaFlat? Anti-Distortion/Anti-Glare CRT
3 Line-Digital Comb Filter Technology
Stereo Broadcast Reception
10 Watts Total Audio Output
1 Front & 2 Rear A/V Inputs
S-Video Input
DVD Component Video Input (Y, Pb, Pr)
Stereo Headphone Jack
Universal Remote Control
1 Year Parts and 90 Days Labor Warranty

As you can see, the one at Outpost (the TXM2091F) os a better deal. That TV includes S-Video inputs and an addition rear a/v input. Also included with it is a headphone jack.
