Hey all,

So apparently there's a 4th panel in the Samsung lottery, the W panel (CPT 201WA04), made by Chungwa Picture Tubes (apparently the same ones that Westinghouse uses). I just got this for my birthday yesterday.

Would love to know what color settings you're using, or if you have an ICC profile for this W version.

Thanks!

I can't seem to get it set just right.

My new Samsung 206bw just arrived. This is my 2nd one I'm giving the first to my gf because she's been wanting a widescreen ever since working on mine occasionally. First thing I did was take the case apart to check what panel it came with. It has a M201EW02 by AUO. My other one had a Chunghwa panel. This 206bw was manufactured in September 07 so it's probably just about the newest you can get. I'm wondering if the panel is actually the M201EW02 VC, AUO's latest 20 in TN found here.

If it is it would appear to have similar enhanced backlighting as the 226BW because AUO lists it as having 92% color gamut oppsed to 72%. Not sure how I can tell what version panel it is for sure though unfortunately I didn't notice any of the extra letters like VC or 08 when I took it apart and I don't really feel like doing it again because I'm always afraid to break something. One thing I did notice is it has a strange circuit strip at the top of the inside. The Chunghwa one didn't have this. Just thought I'd let you know and if anyone else has just gotten this lcd and wants to check the panel let me know what you have.

Mine is just as new as yours, I just got it. After another look it appears to be the same.

Are you having any trouble getting the colors set on it, do you have a decent ICC profile for it?

no I don't have a color profile yet but I thought it looked decent out of the box. I've only had it a few days though and haven't tested it enough yet to tell if it needs any adjustments. I do notice the whites are a lot more white and the blacks are a lot more black than on the other one I gave to my gf with the Chunghwa panel.

I noticed with mine, it was very bright out of the box and that was the first thing I needed to change since they set it at 100.

yeah I use mine on the text setting then turn it up for movies and sometimes games. I think all lcds are way too bright out of the box now. I suppose it's nice if you try using them in a room where the Sun is blaring in.

I was gonna ask, do you use the "MagicColor" option with MagicTune and if you do, what do you set it to?

I find "full" brings out a better range of colors, but for skin tones, they start to look kinda off, like more orange and I can't figure out how to correct it.

have you tried the intelligent option? I think that is meant to enhance all the colors BUT leave skin tones alone. Haven't really used it enough to see how effective it is though.

Your right, thanks. I got it set right now. It's actually good enough without it on.

The only real problem I notice, is that if you have RTA on (on by default), there are noticeable artifacts when playing video at times.

As far as I understand it's an overdrive option (Response time accelerator) for getting the response time to 2ms (or as close as possible).

yeah some people turn RTA off when they aren't gaming. I don't really notice artifacts if there are any though so I just leave it.

You should notice some, but it seems like it comes and goes depending on what you are watching.

Not a huge deal because you can turn it off and with it off, there isn't any ghosting that I could see, so it wasn't needed for video.

I don't know if it's necessary for gaming, but I'll try with and without and see if I even need to bother toggling it at all.

I think I finally have everything set right, aside from toggling the RTA, so I can relax with this LCD finally. The last two I picked up from LG (and returned) were full of dead and stuck pixels, so I went with this model.

I've decided to take mine back and get an LG. The problems just keep adding on.

-The Backlight bleeds on the top and bottom

-Artifacts show up when using RTA (which you have to use to get close to the 2ms in the specs)

-Found a couple dead pixels

-the back cover for the cables doesn't fit right and stay on

-the MagicTune software causes a Dr. Watson error on shutdown everytime.

I didn't bother, after looking at the review of the monitor at xbitlabs, I decided to just switch over to LG.

I likely did get a bad panel from Samsung, but I didn't feel like playing the exchange game anymore.
