Samsung 215TW discontinued. The death of high quality 20'' LCDs?

There are some evidences that the good Samsung SyncMaster 215TW is a discontinued product.
Samsung ZA 215TW page
CDW 215TW page

Now the answer I'm searching for is...
This means that Samsung will replacing the 215TW with something better (ex. 217TW) or this is the end of 21'' S-PVA screens?

I am afraid that LCD manufacturers are abandoning high quality LCDs.
Too much people buy an LCD monitor only because is bigger than another and not because it's better.

Thanks for any advice!

WOW!
This is a super price for a 20'' with MVA panel.
Unfortunately we can't get a similar price in Europe.
...and sincerely I'm not a big fan of glare type panels.

Thanks anyway!

What do you think about the new Eizo S2031W?
FlexScan S2031W

The Eizo cost more than 215TW and is a 20 inch widescreen... but with proverbial Eizo quality.
I'm only afraid about the very small pixel-pitch (0,25).
Maybe the extra 1 inch of the 215TW give a better/comfortable readability.

The only "high quality" lcd's made are NEC, Eizo and LaCie, and they run alot of money.

You are right...
I've owneded Eizo LCDs in the past.
My doubt is only about the size.

The 20 inch Eizo quality Vs. 21 inch Samsung comfort (and video inputs).

Eizo have also a S2111W but it's very pricey.

Probably is a subjective matter...

I wasn't able to find a 215tw locally 3 mos ago when I wanted another one. I landed up getting a 2007fpw (S-IPS) panel. I know there is a lottery on the panels and it's an inch smaller, but the video quality is better than my 215tw.

I'm considering the 2007fpw too.
I like its build quality but, as you have said, the panel is a surprise.
How I can know if it mount the S-IPS or the P-MVA?

The second thing is the price.
Without the periodical Dell promotions the price is not a big bargain.
I found the Eizo S2031W (surely a S-PVA) for near the same price.

Thanks!

I suspect you'd be quite happy with either the Dell or the Eizo.

While i'd say S-IPS is the best tech overall, a guaranteed good quality S-PVA is nothing to be unhappy with

n7,

With my situation (getting the 30" HP w/ dual 20" or 22" portrait monitors), what would you suggest for monitors that aren't $400 each?

And is having flanking widescreens that bad? I mean, that Acer that was linked to earlier is the right price.......

Thanks again!

From what i understand, the panel lottery on the 2007wfp is over... that's why i am within a few days of buying one as well. i'll see if i can find the link to where i read it

edit: i found where i read it but it turns out that it was just one of the times where dell only ships S-IPS, and then they go back to PVA... so it seems that the lottery is still on

I think any tech have good and weak points.
S-IPS assure good viewing angles and colors but a bit "noisy" panel surface (especially LG.Philips panels).
In can only describe it like a hologram/crystalline effect on brighter color areas.
You can confirm?

On the contrary, VA panels has some smaller viewing angles but very clear image and high contrast.
This is why they are generally more suitable for text based applications.

My purpose is programming and so the Eizo is at first place (for now).
Moreover, Eizos are made-in-Japan and without lotteries.

AH! I remember some words on new Samsung 2071BW and 2071PW.
But I don't know when they come out...

I see that the beautiful LG L246WP is selling in US for $599.99.
This is not a cheap TN panel monitor like Samsung 245B and others.
It probably mout a AMVA panel with HDMI and video input.

L246WP-BN
LG L246WP-BN - flat panel display - TFT - 24"

You can confirm this price?
600 US$ is near 434 EUR... without taxes.

It possible that they want to push 24 inch as the new mainstream size for power users?
This can explain the 215TW departure.

(crossposting, as this thread is slightly different

Hi,

did anybody ever test the Eizo's new S2031W? I can't find any tests or reviews on it...

For photoshop work, I am hesitating between:
- Eizo S2031W (around 600 euros)
- NEC 20WMGX2PRO (around 500 euros)
- Samsung 215TW (around 450 euros)
- Apple Cinema Display (20") (around 600 euros)

Of which the Eizo has got the nicest details (on paper) I reckon.

Cheers,
FTrippie

Isn't the 215tw S-PVA as well anyway?

When I bought my 2007fpw, I was camping the Dell thread on HardOCP...good running account of what people were getting, so I dived in when it was on a good streak.
