I have 2405FPW and the manual says its panel manufactured in China by a

When I purchased it, I looked up all the manuals of 19"-24", non of their panels
were made in Korea or Samsung except FPW 2005 which panel was made in
Korea by LG. So I can confirm FPW 2005's panel is made by LG but not others.

You can actually access a menu that tells who made your panel, and I know people have gotten Samsung panels in 1907FPs.

The manual isn't necessarily giving all the information. Dell often changes their suppliers and makes no mention of it (and doesn't change the manual), but if you look on the internet you'll see that throughout the lifetime of their monitors, people often report different brands of panels.

As it is, there are only what 3 major panel makers, Samsung being one, Chimae being another, and I forget who the third is (Toshiba maybe?). The other companies that sell LCDs buy the panels from them and use their own electronics/design and put their brand name on it. Dell takes things a step further and actually has these other companies manufacture their monitors, but they according to the Dell design.

There are 4 major panel suppliers: Samsung, AUO, LG.Philips, and CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics). With some exceptions, most monitors will have a panel made by one of these four companies. You can bet that Dell deals with all of them to get the best deal they can.

Honda = Acura
Toyota = Lexus
Nissan = Infinity
GM = Cadillac
Ford = Lincoln

The Acura TL is just an overglorified European Honda Accord. The Lexus ES is just a dressed up American Camry. The Infinity FX55 is a Nissan Murano and the Infinity G coupe is a softer handling version of the Nissan Z.

How can I access that menu? I'm interested in checking my LCD.

No, No, No, No.. that's like 10 years ago.

Samsung stopped supplying Dell very long time ago.
Dell then switched to Taiwanese manufacturers.

Now most of Dell monitors are using Chinese panels.

You'll now need to pay top dollars to buy Korean or Taiwanese panels...

Definitely not 10 earth years.

Same panel doesn't equal same quality if they are in fact the same.

http://www.behardware.com/articles/589-...carte-mura-components-dead-pixels.html

Also, consider that there's more to a display than just the panel. Any of the other components can ruin an otherwise good display with good panel. Dell monitors have gotten some slack for poor backlighting in some models. Also, the firmware, overdrive components, and video processing features (e.g. DCDi banding issues, poor deinterlacing). Don't forget extras like flash memory and usb hubs.

I have the 2405fpw and I do notice ghosting. I also didn't like that aspect controls don't apply to the secondary display when using PIP/PBP. It was cheap but I may upgrade to get HDCP and better response time.

By the way, the Samsung 244t is more in line with the Dell 2407fpw (6ms grey to grey vs. 12ms grey to grey for 2405) ($949 regular price, less with discounts/coupons.) The 2407fpw has HDCP and better response time but as mentioned before there were problems with the first batches.

Manual for 2407fpw:

There is a 10% off coupon for CircuitCity.com but unfortunately I can't link to it because it's an affliate promo.

I just went into the service/factory mode for my 2405fpw and it says it's a Samsung panel.

On the display itself in the back it says "Made in China". I did read that BenQ manufacturers this display for Dell. Apparently, Tatung also manufacturers Dell stuff so it's possible. It's clear that when Dell says it's "Manufactured by" it doesn't mean everything in the display is made by that company. They obviously use components from different companies.

Online manual indicates that it's BenQ. Their HQ is in China. Tatung's HQ is in Taiwan.

The panel's might be made in Taiwan while other componets are made in Japan, but the whole thing is assembled in China. That is why they say made in China even though there are no Chineese parts involved.

The 3 year warranty on the Samsung or the 3 year warranty on the Dell?

Use Google. Zipzoomfly's website says three years. The Dell may have three years, but I cannot deny or confirm this. I can only speculated using warranty information from previous dell display models of similar price class at the time of release.

Wrong. All Lexuses are RWD or AWD with the exception of the ES350. They are not just rebadged Toyotas with leather.

Park an ES next to a Camry and you will notice that they look almost identical. The ES is just a Camry wearing a Tuxedo.
