I think the real question is whether it will be reliable.

Has fewer platters/heads/moving parts than current 2TB drives, so in theory, it should be more reliable.

Dont recall seeing a great design that crappy manufacturing cant overcome.

What it is made of, how it is made, tolerances, testing and quality control are just a few factors which enter into determining specifications and MTBF. (Please read the detailed manufacturer product sheets available - usually as download - for these components to see what I mean.)

I have 12 1.5 TB drives in my Windows Home Server that need a minor upgrade to 2TB.

I hope this drive is cooler than the existing 2TB drives. My Norco gets a little warm since I slow down the fans.

I need to add another to my WHS sooner than later and this just may fit the bill. Currently running 1x1TB and 2x1.5TB.

However, it uses denser platters, a new head, plus who knows what else is different, and that's just the hardware side. Firmware will be another beast, especially with the looming shift to 4k who knows whether it will support it, have an untested option, or run a version of something currently in use.
It's a new generation drive. Comparing its reliability to current or past drives is a mistake.
