If you guys want to know about failure rates here are the most returned or "commissions killers" at a store i work for that has been listed

1. Mitsubishi's '02 Tabletop Series - The whole line are pure killers. 6 were returned in the last 3 months of sales due to DOA, know people know why they are on clearance

2. RCA RPG - They have a lens that tends to make the images turn green after a year of use. Why I don't know.

3. Anything Sylvania - We only get 1% on the POS's but everyone buys them since they are so cheap, and whine and complain win they die a month out of their warranty.

4. Hitatchi WX Series - Just because the customer's buy them and come up with some bizarre excuse that comes down to they can't afford them. IMHO, I believe Hitatchi makes the highest image quality of the RPG players

5. Phillips 46-PP9302 - Glaring tone differences and just very shabbily made. People buy them because they are one of the cheapest 46" available in RPG.

Personally I'd go for widescreen just because that's the way things are going (already have one) On a 30" 16:9 set you're getting a much larger viewing area than even a 32" set on a 4:3 picture. Of course if you do a lot of 4:3 watching you have to remember you'll have a much smaller viewing area.

Since I watch alot of DVDs and Comcast offers HDTV over cable I didn't have to think very hard about what to buy.

Darkstar, keep the 32"! It's the better TV! I'm sorry Wag, but I have to do this.

32" 4:3 compared to a 30" 16:9 (Run your own comparison here.)

----------------------------------------------------------
4:3 (1.33:1) standard mode [70.6% larger]

16:9 (1.78:1) native mode [4.1% smaller]

16:9 (1.85:1) letterbox mode [4.2% smaller]

16:9 (2.35:1) letterbox mode [3.8% smaller]
----------------------------------------------------------

If you want a get screen that's 70% smaller for 4:3 viewing just to have a 4% bigger screen for movies (0.6" diagonal, w00t!), by all means take back the 32" 4:3

About the only reason I can think of to get the 30" is if the 32" lacks an anamorphic squeeze mode. Even so, I'm not convinced you'd see much of a difference at this size. So ditch the buyers' remorse and keep the 32" dawg!

You are the man that exactly what i needed to see. Well that did it for me im keeping it. I like this TV alot I just really want to make sure Im getting the best for my money. The reason I feel this way is because this is the most expensive TV I have ever bought and I want it to perform like a champ. The only thing now I think i need to do is to buy AVIA or something to make the picture perfect.

Im also working on my HTPC as well

Get the Sound and Vision Home Theater Tune-Up DVD instead. It's produced by the same folks as AVIA (Ovation), but it's less than half the price and more user friendly. The demos on it are killer too.

Later on, if you get really antsy, you could get the NEW AVIA Pro that's about to come out. I hate to see you blow $40 - $50 when a newer version of AVIA is about to hit, and when S&V could do the job.

If you want to get on this deal and pick it up locally, price match the TV at your local BB and go to sears to price match for an additional 10% off.
How does that work? The original link (B&H) has the 3097 for $899. BB only carries the 3096. Sears AFAIK only carries the 3097 and good luck getting them to match B&H (well I suppose if you are local to B&H, no prob, but YMMV otherwise).

I went to BBY yesterday and see 2 model from Samsung TXM3296HF $899 & TXM-3096WHF $948, is it good price?
A better deal on the 3096 was last weekend (or was that 2 weeks ago) during the customer appreciation dealio w/10% off plus they had a $100 giftcard after MIR ($999 -10% = 899 less $100GC = $799 + tax, etc). Also had a free chair/stand or something.

I got mine from Amazon ($14.99 + shipping), but I hear you can get it at Best Buy or any other major retailer. Shop around. It should be well under $20.

Hey, I have a question about this TV. I really want the widescreen version since I'll be playing DVD and games in widescreen but I also want to use it as a computer moniter. 30" computer montier.....oh hells yeah. Anyway, I'm curious as to how it looks when connected with the ati HD adapter mentioned above. Does it look nice enough to surf the web and read text on? Or will that hurt the eyes since the quality of this TV probably isn't up to par with the average computer moniter (or am I wrong about that?).

Basically, if anyone is useing this TV (or any HD tv) as their computer montier....tell me how it is. thanks

Also, is there a way to view TV on half the moniter and have your computer on the second half at the same time? Or would that just look really bad? If you ask me....that would be sweeeeet.

EDIT .... "ATI's HDTV Component Video Adapter supports the standard analog component modes of 480i (interlaced), 480p (progressive), 720p and 1080i. "

so ummm, what would look the best useing the samsung 30" hdtv? I'm guessing 720p is better then 1080i? .....but this tv doesn't support 720p right? So would 1080i be the best? I don't understand. sorry

man, I hope I make enough money this summer to be able to afford this TV...my parents will kill me, I know, but I always have to have the best of everything. But looking at the pics of the 30" WS on BB, those side inputs look annoying. My computer, like most others, outputs via s-video, and looks like the s-video input on the TV is only on the side. Granted, I could go through my reciever (as I probably will), and rely on the component connection from there to the TV, but usually I like to take out the middle man when it comes to video signals.

Hopefully prices will drop even further by the end of summer...or I find a good open-box deal.

As for the AVIA/S&V discs, if there are so many people buying these sets, and you never use the disc more than once, why not just have one person by the disk, and then just ship it around? It'll cost like 3 bucks via the USPS to ship the disc....but I know that most people won't want to do this, so I'll stop.

or why not just rent it at blockbuster since people have mentioned you can find it there?

A. Your TV and room acoustics are likely to change over time. You WILL use it more than once.

B. S&V costs less than $20. That's not a lot of money.

Because both AVIA and S&V come with plastic color filters used for some of the tests. You're not likely to get these filters if you rent the discs.

Just as an FYI, I bought the 32" Samsung TV TXM-3296HF (the same as Darkstar) @ Best buy yesterday for $809.00. There's a 10% off coupon that i found at Chubby wallett, and it was on sale at the local B&M for 899. Thought it was a decent deal.
